Labour Law Reform Committee Members
Alan Dunch, Wendell Hollis, Chris Furbert, Ed Ball, Carl Neblett, John Harvey, Keith Jensen and Graham Redford have all been named to the Labour Law Reform Committee.
The Government said, “The announcement is in keeping with one of the Ministry’s Throne Speech initiatives wherein the Government pledged to form a tripartite committee, representing unions, business and Government, to review Bermuda’s labour laws with a view to the consolidating and modernizing of the legislative infrastructure.
“The members of the Committee are Alan Dunch as Chair, Wendell Hollis as Deputy Chair, Chris Furbert [BIU], Ed Ball Jr. [BPSU], Carl Neblett [Bermuda Police Service], John Harvey [BHA], Keith Jensen [BEC] and Graham Redford.”
Minister of Home Affairs Michael Fahy said today, “As announced in the Throne Speech it is our intent to embark on a review of Bermuda’s labour laws this legislative year.
“The Labour Law Reform Committee will look at the role that labour laws play in job creation and retention and seek to introduce a system which is fairer and more inclusive. Seven labour laws will potentially be impacted by the Review.
“And it is our intent to solicit the assistance of the International Labour Organization [ILO] as a part of the process.
“Members of the group are represented by some of our key workforce sectors, and we consider the Committee an excellent example of a collaborative approach towards addressing our current labour laws.”
wooooow! SO deep. do you realize how much change bermuda has been through since employment act 2000? how these laws affect and protect the actual employee is a monumental no show. plenty of fine line protection for the employer though. it will be reeeeeal polite if any of these committee members care to hold a forum of sorts to get input from employees who have been through all sorts of hell and banishment because the protected employer was able to say ah, we have power, you don’t and we feel that it’s not worth it to hear you so, bye!
whoa, just noticed that’s a lot of gender specific-ness going on in that group there! well, ok then.
It will be interesting to hear which 7 laws will be affected.
