Video: Elite Traveler Interviews David Dodwell

February 12, 2014

A video from the New York based Elite Traveler recently surfaced on YouTube, showing an interview with Bermuda Tourism Authority Chairman David Dodwell.

Mr. Dodwell explains many of Bermuda’s attributes in the video, which is interspersed with footage of the island, showing our beaches, spas, kayakers, golf and more.

“Bermuda is a very sophisticated island,” said Mr. Dodwell. “But it is also an island, so it has all the benefits of an island.”

i hope that none of this upgrading takes place at the reefs.
how many hundred thousands are u making as chairman of the bta again?
    that should suffice.
nice plug for coconuts. tricky bugger.
    elite? luxury? affluent?
do you honestly believe we have what it takes to engage this type of client?
we have the prices they can afford. that’s about it.
how about putting some of that $$$ towards upgrading entertainment?

    • Mike Hind says:

No. We don’t have what it takes to engage this type of client… yet.

But we can and we will. We’ve done it before.

As for entertainment? As someone who has a vested interest, I’ve asked and there ARE plans for and there IS money that be used to upgrade entertainment.

      • more than enough says:

        thank you.
i doubt it, how did that work out?
i would think that entertainment(live) should be in the forefront, thankfully, according to you, there are plans for upgrade.
lets hope its not just another empty promise

        • Mike Hind says:

How did what work out? Our tourism product? Pretty amazingly, thank you.

  3. more than enough says:

and bring your room prices down montgomery!

    • Mike Hind says:

You’re on a roll today… and most of your posts have shown a serious lack of understanding of even the most basic economic concepts as well as HUGE negative assumptions, most of them seemingly false.

Hotels cost a certain amount of money.
That money comes from hotel nights.
      Less hotel nights, higher prices.

If they just arbitrarily lower prices, then there’s less money for things like staff. Which leads to redundancies, which leads to… well… last week.

      • more than enough says:

spell it out for me mike.
these guys ain’t leading me down the garden path…
        the hotel industry is dying.
        lower your expectations of profits
keep the staff, at least the muscle, and trim the fat(executive salaries) similar to the sage recommendations, which i suppose ,to you, show ‘a serious lack of understanding of even the most basic economic concepts’.
the only huge negative assumption is that which you have made of me.

        • Mike Hind says:

You really don’t get it. We’re talking about trying to revitalize our product, not keep it going as is.

Why don’t YOU explain where the money is going to come from?

  4. more than enough says:

this whole luxury travel thing is only a small part of our potential customer base. arguably they have the most disposable funds, but they are also the most peculiar and demanding ‘guests’.
what of the other 99% of the world population?
if they want to visit maybe they can get a job here, plenty of demand there.

    • Mike Hind says:

We’re not a big place. We can’t handle getting “the other 99% of the world population” to come to Bermuda.

We NEED to focus. We need to start with trying to attract the ones with the disposable funds. That’s how business works. You try to get people with money to give that money to you for goods and services.

      • more than enough says:

don’t burst a blood vessel now mike

        • Mike Hind says:

There you go, again, adding nothing. Well done. Try saying something.
How about addressing what I said? There’s nothing in there that would indicate “blowing a blood vessel”.
I have to wonder why you’re so afraid to engage…

  5. more than enough says:

    can’t touch this…

  6. more than enough says:

    no rum in me

Nearly all of the comments here show a shocking misunderstanding of how the hospitality business works. Keep it up, Mr D, you and your team are heading in the right direction!
