Imagine Bermuda Hosts Principals For Lunch

March 21, 2014

Imagine Bermuda hosted a working lunch at the ACE Building for the Island’s Senior and Middle School Principals from both public and private schools on Thursday [Mar 20].

A spokesperson said, “This opportunity for dialogue and discussion among key leaders in the Island’s system of education resulted in consensus that the group meet again before the end of this school year in order to pursue collaborative efforts that support student learning.

“There was a spirit amongst this diverse group, all with a common love for the transformational nature of education, that collaborating around unlocking the potential of all learners in the island, needs to be an utmost priority.

“The gathering offered the educators with a unique chance to have conversations with one another, share experiences and ideas, as well as reflect on how the traditional educational model is being challenged by a rapidly changing world. This reality is seen to have implications for facilitating the potential of all learners.

“The twelve participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to meet together and look forward to identifying key areas in which collective action can make a positive impact on the Island’s school system. The organizers are most grateful to ACE for providing refreshments and facilities for the event.”

Now if ACE would like to provide some seed money to fund this group into becoming a permanent organisation with emphasis on talent, leadership and opportunities to make substantive changes in the lives of students, then that would earn ACE quite a number of gold stars.

To have this group permanently funded by the private sector to give direct and unfiltered feedback running both ways can position young Bermudians on what these companies are looking for, where the jobs will be in corporate Bermuda and what it will take to get there.

In Bermuda, no doubt, you know your areas much better than I, so what is needed to progress in education for both the students and educators is best known from the individuals in attendance.

Private enterprise directly linking with public and private senior schools without Government intervention can result in a very strong education foundation without political controls.

I hope that this will blossom in the interests of all.
