11 Videos: Fight Night Boxing & Kickboxing Action

Teachers RFC held their Annual Fight Night on Saturday [April 5] at the Berkeley Institute gym, with crowds packing the gym to watch the boxing and kickboxing bouts.

The title fight of the night saw Bermuda’s Jermal “Goofy” Woolridge thrill the home crowd by delivering a big win over his Canadian challenger Joey Brozovich.

Brozovich, who is deaf, came into the match with an undefeated record, which fell after matching up with Woolridge, who is one of the island’s premier fighters, with a strong of international medals to his credit.

The night got underway with Kaelin Cox out of the Bermuda San Shou Association winning over Anthony Williams from Controversy Boxing Gym, while the next fight saw Bermuda San Shou Association fighter Jason Lowe defeat Neil Templeman from the Controversy Boxing Gym.

Adam Chevis from the Bermuda San Shou Association had his fight stopped after the first round after his opponent Zubair Hasan failed to come out the corner for the second round, while Coleman Mills out of the Forty Rego’s Gym knocked out Justin Tucker from the Controversy Boxing Gym in the third round.

Corey Boyce knocked out Shannon Ford from the Bermuda San Shou Association in the third round, while Canada’s Nick Hoover defeated Bermuda’s Andre Lambe.

The event then switched to kickboxing with Bermuda San Shou fighter Khalid Pitcher winning a split decision over Canada’s Drew Geoghegan. Bermuda’s Jashun Thomas then defeated Canada’s Shamos Hamel, while the Canadian contingent picked up a win when Shelby Marchand defeated Bermuda San Shou Association fighter Talia Iris.

Part of the proceeds from the evening were donated to an education fund for Dante Noel-Simmons, the young son of Devrae Noel Simmons, who passed away earlier this year.

Mr. Noel Simmmons was a fitness trainer who assisted many of the island’s athletes, including some of the island’s fighters. Following his death, Garon Wilkinson of the Bermuda Sanshou Association recounted the help Mr Noel-Simmons gave their organisation, noting he did it at no cost for many years.
