North Village Welcomes Rangers FC Coaches

April 8, 2014

The inaugural week-long Glasgow Rangers Soccer Schools Camp kicked off on Monday [Apr 7] with much excitement. Almost 100 boys and girls from football clubs across the island are taking part in this week’s camp.

The children have been divided by age group between two locations, North Village’s home field at Bernard’s Park and the Whitney Institute grounds.

“A lot of planning has gone into this camp and we are thrilled to welcome the Scottish coaches to our beautiful island” said Allan Young, North Village Community Club Vice-President. “The caliber of coaching that has been demonstrated thus far is unparalleled and we couldn’t be happier with how things are progressing”.

“The tone that has been set is one of conducting the lifestyle of an elite athlete. Diet/nutrition, hydration, rest/recovery, injury prevention are all key elements. We ask that, at all times, the children demonstrate a good attitude, be respectful, play, train and LEARN with effort and enthusiasm”.

When asked of his first impressions, John Joyce, Glasgow Rangers F.C. coach was quick to respond “We aim to develop professional youth players and we have been impressed by some of the talent that we have seen in these first couple of days. We expect that the Rangers/North Village partnership will be a very fruitful one over the coming years.

“We would also like to offer our best wishes to all Bermuda athletes who will be taking part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer. We look forward to welcoming you and offering the same hospitality that Bermuda has graciously shown us”.

North Village will be making its second trip to Scotland this summer where the players will train, compete and be evaluated by professional coaches. “North Village is proud to have played an influencing role in the success of several of our players who have gone on to play professionally or to receive university scholarships.

“We are committed to providing opportunities for our youth players who wish to be on a path of professional development” concluded Allan Young, North Village Community Club Vice-President. To receive future camp information visit www.northvillage.bm or email camps@northvillage.bm
