Local Musician Aims To Raise Funds Online

June 5, 2014

James RichardsonLocal professional musician James Richardson has launched the James Richardson Project, a fundraiser in support of his next artistic endeavor. The project consists of two connected but distinct initiatives, including an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign, and a live concert/community event to be held on June 21 at Victoria Park.

Mr. Richardson said, “I’ve been a working musician for the past 20 years. While I’ve been blessed to pursue my passion, the stark reality of Bermuda’s entertainment industry has led me to pursue other opportunities abroad.

“When I was thinking of how I could fund this move, I wanted to create something where I could give back to my fans and the community. That’s why I’m excited about the project.”

The online crowd funding campaign has some unique perks for funders, including:

  • Digital downloads of music Mr Richardson has yet to release, including reggae, jazz, and solo piano pieces
  • One-on-one improvisation lessons with Mr Richardson over Skype
  • Have Mr Richardson  record a cover of a favorite tune
  • Have Mr Richardson  create an original composition
  • A virtual concert over Google Hangouts

Another perk of the campaign is patron tickets to Bermuda All Star Jam, the live concert/community event taking place in Victoria Park on June 21. The concert will feature some of Bermuda’s legendary and iconic musicians performing with James, including Life Sentence, The Unit, Pulse, the Bones Blues Band, Tootsie Bean, Gita Blakeney, Toni Robinson, and Shine Hayward.

Commenting on the concert line-up, Mr. Richardson said, “I am so thankful to my fellow musicians for lending their support to the project. Over my 20-year career I’ve had the pleasure of playing with each of them many times and I’m excited to share the stage with them yet again, for one more jam before I head to London.

“Not only will the funds raised through this project go toward helping me with my individual goals, but they will assist other local musicians through BermudaMusiciansinLondon.com, an online resource I’ve built for local musicians looking to take advantage of what artistic opportunities London has to offer.

“I decided to create this resource after researching my move and realising that there’s a ton of information out there and it can be difficult to sort through it all. I’m hoping that I can share what I learned, and will continue to learn during my journey, with my fellow musicians.”

The musician is looking to raise a total of $32,700. To date, $1,485 or 4% of his campaign has been funded.

Mr Richardson added, “I want to thank all of those who have supported me in the past by buying tickets to my shows, or my CD, or even just sharing your best wishes and kind thoughts. I’m reaching out again to the local community to ask for your support and to contribute.

“The campaign stays open until July 9, so I encourage everyone to check it out. And I also hope to see everyone out at Victoria Park on the June 21. It’s going to be the biggest, baddest, jam session Bermuda has ever seen.”
