June 27, 2014

New-Ombudsman---Victoria-PearmanVictoria Pearman, Ombudsman for Bermuda, issued an Annual Report for the 2013 calendar year.

Ms. Pearman states, “This Annual Report covers the work of the Office prior to my appointment in March 2014.

“I am appreciative of the work done by my predecessor Ms. Arlene Brock and the members of my new team. They have assisted me in completing this Report in fulfillment of my statutory duty to report on the work of this Office for the last calendar year.”

Ms. Pearman notes, “The Report includes comments by my predecessor who finished her term as Bermuda’s first Ombudsman at the end of January, 2014, after eight years in office.

“As we move forward we will be reviewing our procedures with a focus on improving our turn-around time and attending to our outstanding complaints. The Office will build on the work done thus far to improve accessibility and awareness of what we do.

“We want all to know that this Office is an independent office of last resort that provides free, unbiased redress against maladministration within our jurisdiction. We want to know how we can better assist.”

The Report will be made available on 30th June, 2014 at ombudsman.bm

  1. nuffin but the truth says:

…..”We want to know how we can better assist”

just tell the Truth regardless of who or what it is!

  2. Born ya says:

So very happy we have a people person in this position and not a cold fish.

  3. Ms. Poli Tician says:

“Cold fish” was an unnecessary and spiteful comment. The position requires an analytical, sharp mind. It does not require someone to hold your hand and sing you lullabies. If we, as a country, were more focussed on performance rather than personality, we would not have some of the legendary ineptness in our civil service. The Public Service Commission has to improve their performance in this regard. Maybe they should be replaced?

    • jt says:

In many cases peronality doesn’t apply either.

  4. Terry says:

    Reminds me of Bill Clinton.
    I did not……………….
    Come on folks.
Were screwed at $100+ a year.
    Shalom.
    Independent my a**.

  5. Navin johnson says:

Cold fish is an unnecessary and silly comment from someone who does not know Mrs Brock or someone who disagreed with her findings. She performed a thankless job admirably during a time when the precious government did nothing to assist her efforts. Looking for a hero and she would make a great selection

  6. LMAO2 says:

Perhaps but call it what you may, if she was objective and a cold fish one could accept that but was she?

    • Ms. Poli Tician says:

What do you want? Lullabies? Cumbauya?

The posts suggest that smart, strong women in senior positions are wholly disrespected on this island. Would you say nicer things if she grinned at you and hollered “Good Morning”? Is that all you need to appreciate someone? Sad really.

Why are we, in Bermuda, so trite in our perceptions of people?

  7. HERO????? says:

Ha Ha “Hero” not even in desperation.

  8. Whaoooooooooo says:

She was unfair in many instances and only pandered to the who’s who. Did not perform independently IMHO. Was extremely selective in what was chosen to be investigated and as was her responsive reports. But as many she will go down in history of having done such a good JOB when she didn’t and why just because she’s conservative when need-be?
