Cyclists Selected For Caribbean Championships
The Bermuda Bicycle Association has selected eight athletes to represent the country at the 2014 Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships which will be held on October 4 and 5 in Paramaribo, Suriname.
The captain of Bermuda’s squad will be Gabriella Arnold, a four-time medalist in the regional competition. Arnold is the current Junior National Champion in all four cycling disciplines and has just started her freshman year at Marian University where she is competing for their cycling team. Joining her in the female category [15-18] are Erica Hawley and Tristan Narraway.
The male entrants are split into two age categories, 17/18 and 15/16. Justin Ferreira and Daniel Oatley will race in the older group while Shomari Steede, Christian Oatley and Tyler Smith will compete in the younger category.
BBA Selector and Board member Elliot Hubbard commented, “On behalf of the BBA Selection Committee I would like to wish the Bermuda 2014 Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships Team all the best in Suriname this October.
“The Selection Committee appreciates the commitment to the sport of cycling that these young athletes have demonstrated together with the dedication to preparation they have each displayed in the build up to this important event on our international calendar.
“We are confident that that these young cyclists will represent the BBA to the best of their ability and will also serve as worthy young ambassadors of Bermuda. Over the years Bermuda has established itself as a real force within the Caribbean region and we look to these youngsters to do their best to help to solidify Bermuda’s position as a major player in Caribbean cycling.”
