Traffic Diverted After Hamilton Parish Collision

August 15, 2014

[Updated] Shortly after 1pm today [Aug 15], emergency services responded to North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish where a car and a taxi were involved in a collision.

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel tended to persons that were injured in the crash while police secured the area, diverting traffic through Radnor Road, away from the accident scene.

An attending ambulance transported the injured to King Edward Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 2.11pm: A police spokesperson said, “Police and first responders attended a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision that took place on North Shore Road Hamilton Parish in the area of Market Place at around 1:05pm.

“Details are unclear however it appears that a taxi and a private car collided, resulting in the passengers in the taxi, a 100 year old man and a 88 year old woman being tossed about in the taxi. Both were treated on the scene by emergency personnel and deemed to be fine.

“A three year old in the car was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries that are not believed to be serious. Traffic is flowing slowly in the area as the scene is being processed. The road should be open fully in next hour.”

  1. Dreamcatcher says:

I think most of these accidents are cell phone related. From driving and running I see people always looking down or texting in almost every other vehicle.

    • Person says:

You people are so stupid!!! The person blacked out. Be mindful of family that may read this.

      • bystander says:

Can you show me where in the article it states someone blacked out? From reading the above only, one would never know that so there really is no need for you to be name calling. But I guess being ignorant allows for that sort of thing.

        • Real talk says:

          Maybe they kno the person

        • so sad says:

no it don’t state that and most don’t state facts as the details are scratchy at the to of reporting it that’s why your comment was unnecessary you people never think of the family than get mad when they put you in your place.

    • MS says:

How do you know this accident was cellphone related? Where you there or a psngr in either vehicle? Unless you hv the facts stop writing comments and ASSuming because when you ASSume, you make and A** out of yourself and no else because of your ASSumptions!

  2. pressing the flush says:

of course they were both within the speed limits, the photos prove that!

  3. swing voter says:

    New car driva?

  4. Whistling Frog says:

WoW! Some people just shouldn’t be driving at all… I hope everyone is ok.

  5. Raymond Ray says:

My, my, my; we’re seeing it again:-( I hope all are “safe”. Here we see an example of “too much along with too little”.
People must be more caution while driving. Unless someone has a medical problem which causes them to collide with an on coming vehicle then it would have to be carelessness on someone (or both parties) side.

  6. tigerboy says:

    20 mph not likely.

    • Person says:

You are a jacka**!! The person blacked out

      • Creamy says:

They “blacked out” while driving? As a result of what?

        • LaVerne Furbert says:

Really, what’s it to you Creamy? Maybe you can call KEMH and get more information as to why the person blacked out. It’s really none of your business anyway.

          • pressing the flush says:

            LV,
It’s EVERYBODY’s business that uses the road!

            • Hurricane says:

@ pressing the flush, what a joke; because one uses the roads doesn’t mean that its’ their business to know the circumstances of all accidents.

    • Bermudian says:

Do you drive the speed limit Tigerboy? Assuming you either drive a car or ride a bike.

  7. hummmm says:

Happy there is not more like this. So many times I have seen cars past the center line (like walls are just going to jump out at them) for then to go back in their Lane just as another vehicle approaches them.

    • Person says:

The driver of the car blacked out

      • bystander says:

Just because you may be “in the know” doesn’t mean the rest of the Island is. So watch how you speak to others and don’t be a jacka**.

        • bdaboy says:

Do you know what irony means?

          • bystander says:

As a matter of fact I do, and I see the irony in me telling this person NOT to be a jacka$$…I was trying to drive home my point, I mean how many times can a person respond to every comment with the same tone and not expect it to be turned on him at least once to see how it feels. All they ever needed to do was post that they heard or knew that someone had blacked out instead of responding rudely to everyone who doesn’t know.

  8. Oh no says:

Oh no. I hope the people involved in this accident are ok. Praying for a full recovery for those injured.

  9. HEY DIS BIE HERE says:

I pray that both victims are ok,

  10. mercy says:

100 and 88 years old. Those are some good years. move along folks nothing to see here

  11. Terry says:

Well ‘Person’ must be up to date on all of the incident.
Must be family for all the comments.

    Shalom.

  12. Anonymous says:

    Hello everyone,

I usually use my name when posting, but for reasons to become obvious, I have chosen not to.

I am a direct family member of the two people who were involved in the accident. I can confirm that the driver was indeed exhausted and fell asleep behind the wheel. I will be sending further details to Bernews so that the article can be updated.

We sincerely thank the relevant persons for their supportive sentiments, and do ask everyone to please exercise all due sensitivity if they do choose to share their thoughts on the incident. One of the passengers was a small child, so this is certainly not an easy time for us.

We thank-you very much for thinking of us during this time. One love.

    • Terry says:

Well you must be ‘Person’ or related.

It the way ‘Person’ came across in their verbage.

All they had to do was say it without attacking others.

      Then again.
      Bermuda is…………..

      • Anonymous says:

This is going to be my only comment on any post, since it is directed at a member of my family.

Terry, respectfully, “Person” is clearly shook-up about the incident, and is entirely justified in being upset about it, and any presumptuous comments about it.

Instead of taking out the time to admonish “Person”, who I am not, perhaps it would be more appropriate to “exercise all due sensitivity” and take into consideration their state of heart and mind at the moment?

Or, perhaps this isn’t a priority for you, perhaps it is more important for you to satisfy some part of yourself by superficially and insensitively moralising at people. Perhaps.

And I am not attempting to be facetious, I do mean all of that very much intentionally.

      • anonymously anonymous says:

I agree Terry. I read comments other family members made on facebook and bernews and they are hostile toward other commenters. The whole approach is wrong. Anonymous appears to be the first person with any sense and decorum…

        • Angel says:

Haha it saw the stuff on FB 2. It was bad because one girl wished the family good luck n they still attacked her. the mother of the little girl n the mother of the guy drivin I think it was. They were horrible!!!!! she told them to stay positive n focus on their family n ignore the negative comments n they attacked her. I thought they owed her a apology because they we’re wrong! She meant no harm…..you could tell. TRASH

    • Dr. Carlton C. Crockwell Sr. says:

Thank you very much for the update and it’s my hope that everyone is fine. I will keep everyone in my prayers and thoughts.

Dr. Crockwell – Road Saftey Council

  13. Butterfly says:

Easy ‘Person’ we got the message. The driver blacked out!

  14. wakeupbda says:

Regardless of how the accident happen be concerned if the people will recover. No matter how small or big. Have a heart, but if you don’t that might be hard.

  15. Pissed Off says:

To all you fools that think you know everything before you even comment make sure you get the full details and stop being judgemental on something you do not know about. Stop assuming.

  16. Grandpas girl says:

My Grandfather was the 100 year old man who was “thrown around in the taxi” along with his wife. I’m not sure how the paramedics could have deemed him “fine”, when he now has a broken hip, has had surgery, and will be there for two weeks until he is able to fly back home and will now, sadly, have to go to a nursing home for rehab. I guess fine means something entirely in Bermuda!

    • Ride says:

That is just terrible news. I hope he recovers sufficiently to where his quality of life is not too adversely affected.

      Ride

  17. meme suko says:

I honestly believe the paramedics here in bermuda are just express taxi drivers. I do not believe they have the qualifications required compared to other countries. Further more they should not be trying to diagnose your pa considering they do not have the credentials to do so. More lives could be saved with the right training from the first response teams.
