August 2014: Top 10 Bernews “Photo Of Day”

Designed to highlight the beauty of our 21 square miles, Bernews features a “Photo of the Day” in both our email newsletter, as well as social media, each morning, posting scenic shots to start the day off on a cheerful note.

Always popular, August’s top photos attracted over 15,000 likes, shares, and retweets and, judging by the amount of readers’ “likes” on Facebook, last month’s most popular photos included stunning aerial shots, a turtle, the waters of Castle Harbour, Horseshoe Bay Beach, Fort St. Catherine’s Beach, and more.

1] Aerial View of Non-Mariners

This stunning overhead view, taken by Bermuda Aerial Media, offers an unbeatable view of this year’s Non-Mariners event, drawing more than 1,150 likes and shares on Facebook.

2] Green turtle

Earning 900 likes and shares was this photograph of a turtle enjoying a breath of fresh air as it pokes its head above the water in Somerset.

 3] Round the Island Boat Race

This overhead view, also captured by Bermuda Aerial Media, shows a number of boats as they speed across the water during the Round the Island Boat Race, garnering around 900 likes and shares on Facebook.

4] Horseshoe Bay

Always a beautiful destination, this photograph of swimmers enjoying the waters of Horseshoe Bay earned around 770 likes and shares.

5] Castle Harbour

The crystal clear waters of Castle Harbour, framed by a clear blue sky sporting fluffy white clouds, inspired almost 750 likes and shares.

6] Somerset Long Bay Beach

The oceanic vantage point provided by Somerset Long Bay Beach also found itself among the favorite photos of the day in August, bringing in more than 550 likes and shares on Facebook.

7] Horseshoe Bay

Horseshoe Bay makes its second appearance on August’s list with this photograph of of beach-goers enjoying the waters, attracting more than 510 likes and shares.

8] Dockyard

Also topping 500 shares was this shot of Dockyard, featuring a number of small boats docked in flawlessly clear water.

9] Fort St. Catherine’s Beach

This attractive view from Fort St. Catherine’s Beach earned 485 likes and shares on Facebook with its depiction of shoreline across blue waters.

10] Warwick Long Bay

In the number 10 spot for August’s photos of the day is this shot of visitors to the island looking out over Warwick Long Bay, bringing in more than 460 likes and shares.
