Gene Steede To Perform At Chewstick Tonight

October 24, 2014

This Friday, October 24th at 9pm, local entertainer Gene Steede will perform at The Chewstick Lounge in a farewell to his daughter Kalea as she ventures off to start a life in London.

Chewstick said, “His career has taken him to all our Island’s major hotels as well as throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Australia and more. The venerable Gene Steede has shared his talents as a performer and host for various causes and has long been recognized as one of Bermuda’s most popular, versatile and accomplished artists with an unparalleled sense of humor.

Mr Steede performs at City Hall last year:

“He was awarded an MBE in 2011 for his services to music and in that same year was featured in a roast and toast a portion of which he hosted. Gene has an indomitable spirit and a passion for music and entertainment, after a hiatus due to health concerns he will be taking on the spotlight again for a send off of his talented daughter, Kalea Steede.

“Kalea is very excited for the chance to share the stage with her dad as he has inspired her to explore her musical talents and given her the freedom to experience a multitude of instruments and styles of music.

“This freedom allowed her to become part of Bermuda’s only all female pop band, “AntiBoy”, who came together during her high school days and whose last performance will be this Friday as Kalea prepares for her departure. The band will be accompanied by John Seymour who is a legend in the making, as he too has benefitted from a legacy of musicianship, family support and commitment to sharing his gifts.

“Members of AntiBoy, Kalea Steede, Sarafina Durrant and Gracie Edwards have grown as performers and musicians, having showcased their talents at The Chewstick Foundation’s Youth Open Mic in late 2012 and have now become young women influencing future generations of young people, taking on new responsibilities, opportunities and venturing off to take their individual voices to the world.

“This performance will be their last musical goodbye alongside the quirky, charismatic and infinitely talented Gene Steede. A true cultural ambassador and consummate showman this event is one that should not be missed as the show’s music, intimacy will undeniably be filled with humor, fond memories, talent and song that honors the bonds formed through family, artistic expression and creativity

“Entry for this event will be $10, payable at the door. Doors will open at 8pm with the show scheduled to start at 9pm. Do not miss the opportunity to experience awe-inspiring performances, guaranteed to be relaxing, uplifting and enlightening. The community is invited to celebrate live music at its best, and experience and support both legendary and emerging talents. Seating is limited so get there early.”
