Kaymer Wins 2014 PGA Grand Slam of Golf

October 15, 2014

The 32nd PGA Grand Slam of Golf came to a dramatic end at the Port Royal golf course today [Oct 15], as Martin Kaymer needed a play-off to claim the title on the final day of the tournament – its last showing in Bermuda as the event will move to the United States in 2015.

Kaymer held a three stroke lead with six holes to play, but Watson recorded birdies on 14, 15 and 16; coupled with a bogey for Kaymer on the 16th, the play saw Watson take a two stroke lead with two holes to play.

Watson’s tee shot on 17 ended up in the water, eventually leading to a bogey, while Kaymer shot a birdie, leaving the pair standing on the 18th tee at 6-under par each.

Watson and Kaymer both shot pars on the 18th, resulting in a play-off and sending the pair back to the 18th tee. On their second shots, Kaymer was some six feet away from the pin, while Watson was a foot closer.

Kaymer hit his shot for a birdie, but Watson missed his birdie putt to hand Kaymer, who had a share or the outright lead for 35 of the 36 hole tournament, the title.

Rory McIlroy finished at 2-over par and Jim Furyk finished at 3-over par.
