Bermuda Festival To Offer Guitar Masterclass

February 3, 2015

The Bermuda Festival Outreach Programme is getting set to host a “guitar masterclass” workshop on Saturday, February 7, 2015, led by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.

A spokesperson said, “This workshop is offered to advanced guitarists only and those who participate will be given the opportunity to work with and learn from the members of the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.

“Consequently they will also be instructed on how to improve their skills and hone their musical talent. Performing in the masterclass will be a guitar trio and three soloists, including teacher and performer Steve Crawford.”

Nancy Smith, the Festival’s Outreach Coordinator, said, “The members of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet are not only accomplished musicians, but also renowned teachers, dedicated to sharing their knowledge and skills with students. To give local guitarists the opportunity to work alongside and learn from their expertise is something we are very happy to be able to provide.”

Karen Pollard, the Artistic Director for the Festival, said, “The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet is recognised around the world for its inventive approach to music.

“Participants of the guitar masterclass will have the rare opportunity to interact with these musicians and gain valuable insight into how they can improve their technique. We are thrilled to be able to offer this workshop.”

“The Guitar Masterclass is one of the few Outreach Programmes that is open to observers. Those who are not advanced enough to partake in the workshop, or simply have an interest in the guitar are welcome to purchase observer tickets, and watch the participating musicians in action.

“Observer tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students. The workshop will be held at the Fairmont Southampton on Saturday, February 7 from 9.30am through 11.00am.”

Seeing these guitar players got me thinking (dangerous, I know). How come the Festival has never had a bluegrass band? Real people with real instruments playing real music.

There is much more to it than Dueling Banjos. An awful lot of gospel for starters.
