Oh dear . . . Hope they are all Ok? Needless to say, that is a dangerous junction despit having a mirror there!
Sorry Artsy, I have to disagree with your second comment there. There’s nothing wrong with that junction as long as it’s negotiated with appropriate care and attention.
Sorry, Davie, I must disagree with you as the fish-eye mirror is so deceptive when someone is approaching Middle/Verdmont Road at high speed. Have hesitated many a time because I felt unsure. Family living in Jennings Land now almost always exit North Shore to avoid any chance of misjudgement! Accident waiting to happen for sure. Happy Easter!
So you blame a fish eye mirror? You admit that you’ve hesitated many times? Perhaps if the person in the 207 had hesitated a bit more, then they might have seen the incredibly huge CRV coming down middle road.
Just sayin…
The point is that you cant always fully see vehicles coming out of that gate. At night you are helped by the headlights, during the day you see a dot in the difference but have no idea how fast its going. Fisheye mirrors arent great.
The point is that you don’t pull out unless you know it’s safe. If you “can’t see”, don’t pull out. Turn left.
Wouldn’t you still be pulling out??? Whether it is left or right???
Only if you can tell it’s safe to pull out.
And, turning left is easier than right because you’re not crossing a lane.
That junction can be quite dicey, especially if you drive a vehicle with a long nose or low view point of the road.
Driver exiting Jennings can exercise all the caution in the world, its a matter of the same with oncoming traffic – approaching traffic is obscured by the wall and the slight incline, add an elevated rate of speed of approaching traffic and it can be clear from the driver exiting point of view and the very next second there’s a car or bike in their lap.
You have to look right left and right right and then exit with caution
And hope nobody’s coming too fast. I was going to live on that road and decided against it because the intersection was too dangerous.
my mirrors are usually broken after a week…. feckin rats
Insurance companies are going to be busy tomorrow… Hope the Hospitals didn’t have anything serious to deal with.
Huh, dangerous junction? We need to be more careful and less aggressive on the roads, especially on the wet roads. Come on Bermuda, that’s at least three injury accidents that I know of so far for today, SLOW DOWN and be more considerate on the roads.
I agree with “Davie Kerr” and “just saying” 100%…There’s nothing wrong with that junction as long as it’s negotiated with appropriate care and attention.” “SLOW DOWN and be more considerate on the roads.”
I can vividly recall when people use say, “if you ride / drive like lightening you stand a greater chance of crashing like thunder.”
A thought for today
“Never idealize others. They will never live up to your expectations.” -Leo Buscaglia, author, speaker and professor (31 Mar 1924-1998)
The 12 (thus-far) that have disagreed have to be young or haven’t experience the loss of a love one/s due to traffic accident/s…
That’s always been a bad entrance/exit
I can beat him………………
Now you join em.
JUST SLOW DOWN>>> WHERE ARE YOU GOING ?
Nothing wrong with the junction. people have to learn to adjust their driving when the roads are wet. A vehicle will not stop in the same distance on wet road as it will on dry road. plain and simple. so slow to heck down or if you are entering the main road, wait until it is absolutely clear… don’t try to beat the oncoming vehicle.
@ Square One I agree: “There’s nothing wrong with the junction.” As long as it’s negotiated with appropriate care and attention. “SLOW DOWN and be more considerate on the roads.” If you ride / drive like lightening you stand a greater chance of crashing like thunder.
As a resident of Jennings Road I have to agree with those saying it is a horrible junction. While you can exit onto Middle Road using care and extreme caution, speedy drivers heading east along Middle Road make it very unsafe. If drivers and riders would slow down and perhaps even give way to the Jennings Road traffic, accidents like this could be easily avoided.
Having lived in Jennings Road for 40 years, I can attest to the exit onto Middle Road being nerve wracking however cautious one is. The mirror is useless as one cannot judge where a vehicle is and at what speed it is travelling. So I and many other Jennings Land inhabitants choose to exit via North Shore and then up Store Hill to access Middle Road.
Another of the many intersections & gates with terrible sightlines. Combine that with speed & a lack of courtesy & all of these crashes are no surprise at all.
You should NEVER TRUST a mirror, use your own eyes and ears.
I ask the question again… What has happened to BDA drivers over the yrs?? The quality of your driving skills combined with booze, drugs, excessive speed and general recklessness (Plus cellphones and texting now) is continually getting worse from one month to the next!!
I wonder what you vehicle insurance rates are on the Island with all these spate-of-accidents is today?? Someone has to pay – and it won’t be the insurance companies!!
We are supposed to live in a democratic society ,that is not so ! there is no equality , Senior Citizens are singled out , not treated the same, because Senior Citizens are required to take a driving test and a medical every year.
There are to many “T” bone collisions; I vote for everyone to take an on road annual driving test.
An “annual driving test.” may help seniors as it is required in the USA as well (certain states) + a medical certificate from your doctor!!
The BIG problem here (BDA) is… booze, drugs, excessive speed and general recklessness (Plus cellphones and texting now)!! I doubt that many Seniors are involved with these issues!!
It is all about communication.
Your vehicle horn warns other drivers as to your location during the day .
Flashing your lights accomplishes the same thing at night.
TCD will fail a car because 1 out of 3 tires was a different Name Brand!!! My car has $350.00 per tire on it, could not get a replacement of the same brand for a torn tire due to our finely paved trench rock roads BUT will give a licence to any dryrot that can PARK!! DA B!T@#…ALL requests for a licence should be on par with POLICE training EXCEPT!, the speed training of course. There are too many “la de das” out there in vehicles, they don’t have a clue…and for all you “slow down bda” people have you ever heard the saying that “Time is Money”..? Well if you Drive for a living, running on a schedule, then you know quite well what i’m sayin’…gotta make da mans money. The training for a licence to operate needs to be much more STRINGENT.
oh yea…HESITATION causes 80% of accidents…people start to come out then stop with their mouth wide open …if you’re coming out COME!! don’t stop. bie lemme go bie…
