Photos & Video: St George’s Anzac Day Service
Yesterday [Apr 25] marked centenary Anzac Day commemorations in Bermuda, with a dawn service on Coral Beach beginning at 6.15am, with a commemorative service following at 5.00pm at the Military Cemetery on Secretary Road in St George’s.
The service served to remember Petty Officer George McKenzie Samson, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery and service to the wounded, ANZAC Private Arthur Harold Legrice of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, who died in Bermuda in 1917, and members of the Bermuda Militia Artillery who died in the first World War.

Those speaking at the service included Governor George Fergusson and Deputy Lieutenant for Angus, Scotland Dr Sandy McKendrick. Readings were given by Irene Richter, former medic with the Royal New Zealand Army Medical Corps and Captain Alan Steven Brooks RN [retd].
The gathered crowd included St George’s Mayor Garth Rothwell, Senator Jeff Baron, Pipe Major David Frith, members of the Bermuda ANZAC group, the Royal Artillery Association and more. The flag party was provided by Sea Cadets of TS Admiral Somers under command of Lt [SCC] Michael Frith, and the service was overseen by Major the Rev’d W. David Raths.
