“Bermuda Has Lost Great Athlete, True Legend”

[Updated] Following the passing of marathon runner Neville Virgil, both the Progressive Labour Party and Premier Michael Dunkley both offered their condolences to the family.

“Mr. Virgil, a two time Bermuda day marathon champion, and one half of the notable Virgil twins, who placed 1st and 2nd in 1964, was a well known runner and taxi driver in Bermuda,” the PLP said.

“We send our best wishes to the family and friends of Mr. Virgil and pray that the memories of their time together may sustain them through these difficult times.”

Update 5.24pm: Premier and Minister of National Security Michael Dunkley also expressed condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Neville Virgil.

Premier Dunkley said, “On behalf of the Government, I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Neville Virgil.

“This loss will be felt widely in the Island, especially throughout the running community. Mr. Virgil was also very well known throughout the hospitality industry and he will certainly be missed.

“Bermuda has lost a great athlete and a true legend. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”
