Taxi Overturns, Crashes Into Pole, Power Out
BELCO is working to restore power in Devonshire this evening [April 21] after a 40-year-old taxi driver collided with a street pole at around 10.20pm, resulting in the car overturning in the road and power being knocked out.
A police spokesperson said, “At 10:21pm, first responders attended a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision that took place on South Road, 200 meters west of Brighton Hill in Devonshire.
“It appears that a taxi was travelling on South Road when the driver, a 40 year old Devonshire man, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a street pole, resulting in the car overturning in the road.
“The driver escaped the vehicle unharmed and there were no passengers in the vehicle,” the police added. ”An investigation has commenced. At present, electricity is out in this area and BELCO is working to restore power.”

Orrrr maybeeeeee fixxxxx the roaddddssss brehhhhh?
Seriously.
Sorry dal, South Road may not be in the greatest of conditions, but if you’re driving a taxi fast enough to cause it to flip over, you can’t absolve the driver of all the blame.
Truu
Mr. Speaker I find your words harsh and injudicious. How do you know it wasn’t the pole that was speeding, texting or possibly under the influence?
This new age of texting on your cool phone. People drive off roads, ride bicycles into ravines, even walk into traffic or fall in manholes. Phones should come with crash-helmets and elbow pads.
People get in accidents that’s life. That’s why its called an accident . didn’t do it on purpose.hope he OK.
Yes, not on purpose… but the question is was this an avoidable collision or not?
He obviously did something wrong…Didn’t he??
Cant blame that one on a senior citizen. Can you ?
It’s no wonder this happened the way the taxi drivers ‘drive’.
Yo!…..taxi……when I said belco I meant their main office bye!?!…..
How do you lose control of a vehicle at 20 mph? Unless he wasn’t going 20 mph. On second thought, the tourists go 20 mph on their mopeds and all the Bermudians are having road rage.
Half of BDA drivers would NEVER make it in the “real world”!!!
Damn those poles vaulting out into the road like that. Someone please do something!
Glad nobody was seriously hurt. Speedy recovery taxi driver. To the rest keep quiet you don’t know the true story behind the accident so keep quiet.
Looks like ALL these repeated accidents don’t seem to bother you – the least!! Plse don’t come and try and drive in the USA!!
Lol at some of the above comments from the Peanut Gallery !!
By the way I will no longer offering suggestions through Bernews on what I perceive an believe to be good driving practices, obviously the exercise had been a waste of your time and for some is a big joke.
When you find out that over seas vehicle rental agencies will no longer rent to Bermuda license holders don’t be surprised.
*****BINGO*****
Yet another case of recklessness – DUI or speeding!! When will BDA drivers get-the-message about “safe driving”?? The number of accidents is incredible for an Island this size!!
