21-Year-Old Ezariah Matthie Dies After Collision
[Updated: Police confirm that 21-year-old Ezariah Matthie has died as a result of this collision]
Emergency services responded to a collision at approximately 2.30pm this afternoon [Feb 29] on Ord Road, which has resulted in a 21-year-old man being taken to hospital for treatment of what the police said were “serious” injuries.
Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said, “At 2.32pm, police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision; that collision took place at the junction of Harvey Road and Ord Road.
“It appears that a motorcycle was traveling west on that said road when it collided with a truck that was turning at the intersection.
“As a result, a 21-year-old young man was taken to the hospital where he was treated for injuries that, at this point, are being classified as ‘serious.’
“Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen the collision to contact police on 295-0011.”

Update: A police spokesperson said, “At 2:38pm today [29-Feb] first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place at the junction of Harvey & Ord Road in Paget.
“Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a 21 year old Warwick man was travelling west on Ord Road when he collided with a truck turning onto Harvey Road. As a result the 21 year old man was taken to KEMH, where his condition has been listed as serious.
“The area has been cordoned off and the scene is being processed by the relevant police units. Police are appealing to witness or anyone with information regarding this incident to call 295-0011.”
Update 5.31pm: The police said the 21 year old man is listed in critical condition in the ICU.
Update 8.44pm: A police spokesperson said, “Police can now confirm the death of a 21 year old Warwick man who died as a result of a road traffic collision that took place today. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.”
Update March 1, 11.51am: A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 21-year-old Ezariah Matthie, who died after he was involved in a two-vehicle road traffic accident on Monday 29th February at 2:38pm.
“The accident took place at the junction of Ord Road and Harvey Road in Paget, where it appears that Mr. Matthie collided with a truck that was turning onto the junction. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries later that same evening.
“A full investigation is underway and a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to the family to assist with this difficult process. The Bermuda Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ezariah Matthie.
“This marks the 2nd road traffic fatality for 2016 and anyone with any information regarding this accident or any information on the movements of Ezariah Matthie before his untimely death should contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788
