City Of Hamilton Offering Prizes For Walking

June 22, 2016

With both No. 1 car park and City Hall car park in Hamilton to be closed for construction next week, the City is partnering with the Department of Health in order to turn a potential inconvenience into an opportunity to encourage walking through prize giving.

A spokesperson said, “Both No. 1 car park and City Hall car park will be closed for construction next week in Hamilton, which we recognise is not ideal!

“We have therefore partnered with the Department of Health to turn this into a positive, as best we can.

“Bull’s Head car park is rarely used to even 50% capacity and we’re therefore encouraging motorists to use Bull’s Head car park and walk to wherever they go in Hamilton.”

“We’ve turned it into a fun easy contest, asking people to post their daily step count with a photo of their pedometer and at the end of the week we will tally the best walkers and award prizes to the top 50!

“It’s our hope that some people will discover a new healthy and enjoyable habit of parking at Bull’s Head and walking, usually less than 10 minutes to wherever they need to go. We have therefore launched a walking incentive for motorists… City Walking Week.

“There are prizes for the top 50 people who report their daily steps to our Facebook page.

“Here’s how to play: take a photo of your stepper with the date and post it to www.facebook.com/CityofHamiltonBDA with the hashtag #citywalkingweek. We will tally the total number of steps per person by the end of the week and the top 50 will receive a prize.

“Be the person with the most steps and receive a folding beach chair from City of Hamilton…we’re turning lemons into lemonade!”

Thanks Corporation. Don’t think much of your co-ordination strategy to have the two major car parks closed at exactly the same time.
Can you advise where seniors might be able to park and for those who cannot walk the distance from Bull’s Head.

Seniors can use the Mayors’ and Corporation Big-Wigs parking bays behind the City Hall, they will of course be leading the City Walking Week by example.

Great idea! I always park at Bull’s Head – it’s covered so the car stays cool, and it’s only $5 a day – FREE ON SATURDAYS!

  3. Iggrunce says:

So parking will be free, then?

  4. Stuntman says:

What a wonderfully cynical gesture from City Hall. Promoting walking to cover up their mismanagement.

Pointedly – perhaps they should actually make walking in Hamilton safer. Many street intersections in Town don’t even provide pedestrian crossings. For example the junction of Wesley Street and Park Road is especially dangerous – and is about to have a new influx of pedometer gazing bodies blindly negotiating that corner.

  5. Martian Alien says:

seems to be a big cover up for an even BIGGER screw up to have 2 parking lots closed at same time for work they can ill afford

  6. Stunned says:

    Mismanagement at it’s best

There is still time to correct this – Anyone with gumption would avoid such planning – someone missed the ball
