Flights Divert Away From Island Due To Winds
The high winds impacted Bermuda flights today [May 12], with the Delta flight from New York diverting back to JFK, Air Canada from Toronto diverting to Philadelphia, while the CargoJet flight returned to New Jersey after opting not to land.
A Skyport Airport Duty Officer said, “Runway cross winds in excess of 40 knots impacted flight operations at the L.F. Wade International Airport today, causing several disruptions.
“Delta flight 437 from New York had to divert back to JFK with a new estimated arrival time of 3:00 pm. Air Canada flight 942 from Toronto had to divert to Philadelphia and is now expected to arrive at 4:30 pm, while the CargoJet flight from Newark International had to return to New Jersey after opting not to land.
“A revised arrival time has not been confirmed as of yet. All other scheduled, arriving flights have operated as per normal.”
The warning has now been cancelled, however earlier today, the Bermuda Weather Service issued a Gale Warning valid for early this afternoon, and the weather has also resulted in the Orange ferry route [between Dockyard and St. George’s] being suspended
