Court: Woman Denies Importing Cannabis

Appearing in Magistrates Court, a 20-year-old woman who lives in Arizona denied importing cannabis.

Ms Kyla Smith, who told police that she lived in Arizona, USA, was charged with two offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Ms Smith denied that on 21st May 2017, she possessed cannabis with the intent to supply; and that, on the same day, she had imported the illegal substance.

Questioned by Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo, the Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that the weight of the alleged substance was just under 900 grams.

In ascertaining her address, the Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that while Ms Smith was in Bermuda, she was staying at a Devonshire address.

The Magistrate set Mention for 7th June; granted bail at $30,000 with one surety; ordered Ms Smith to surrender her travel documents; not leave Bermuda without the permission of the Court; reside only at the Devonshire address she had given police; not change her address without notifying police; and to report to Hamilton Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
