Minister Outerbridge Congratulates TeamBDA
Minister for Social Development and Sport Nandi Outerbridge said, “On behalf of the people of Bermuda, I want to extend our thanks and appreciation to Team BDA for their remarkable performance in the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.
“This was a competition against some of the best young sailors in the world and you performed with character, skill and teamwork, sailing your way into the finals and winning the first race out of the gate in dramatic fashion.
“All Bermuda is proud of you. You represented who we are and what we’re about and did so with character, enthusiasm and grace. And in one respect it was a history-making achievement with Team BDA fielding the first black sailors in America’s Cup history.
“I appreciate that this has been a long journey for you during which you were tested as athletes and teammates and as representatives of your country, which is an honour relatively few get to experience. You will stand as great role models for many young Bermudians
“All this would not have been possible without the America’s Cup and so I take this opportunity to thank the organizers and sponsors who’ve made it possible for everyone involved in Team BDA to experience something special and perhaps life changing.”
