Videos: Online Video Messages From Paula Cox
Over the last 24 hours, three videos have been posted on a Youtube account called “PC Elect” showing former Premier Paula Cox delivering National Heroes Day and Father’s Day messages, with the videos making references to Constituency 14.
In one video, Ms. Cox said, “Good day to the constituents of Constituency 14 and the wider Bermuda. I know you’re all ready for the National Heroes Day.
“National Heroes Day is a wonderful time to pay tribute and the acknowledge those who have given so much – our national heroes who have sacrificed and made a difference and had an impact in Bermuda, and we thank them and we acknowledge them.”
“That’s at the national level. However, as I’ve canvassed in C14, I’ve met a number of local community heroes. Persons like the two gentlemen who are dedicated to sweeping and cleaning up their part of the neighbourhood, determined to make a difference there.
“I’ve met women who are putting together care packages for those who are facing significant economic hardship to have something to help them along the way. That’s compassion, that’s caring.”
The video was posted approximately 17 hours on the “PC Elect” Youtube account, and followed after another video titled “Paula Cox’s Happy Father’s Day message to Dads in C14 Bermuda”. Following after those two videos, was another 16-second video titled “Paula Cox 2017.”
The three videos are the only ones on the channel at this time, and while two of the three reference C14, and one references the July 18th election, none of the videos appear to implicitly state she is a candidate for C14.
Emails recently revealed the internal discussions within the PLP over Ms Cox’s bid to be the PLP’s candidate for Constituency #14 Devonshire North West.
Ms Cox lost her seat in the 2012 General Election, with the OBA’s Glen Smith winning with 55.49% of the vote. Prior to 2012, Ms Cox had held the seat since 1996, winning 69.59% of the vote vs the UBP’s Alan Marshall [492-215] in the 2007 General Election, and in 2003, Ms Cox won 74.27% of the vote against Christian Dunleavy [UBP] who received 25.73%.
The PLP has already confirmed that Wayne Caines will be the PLP’s candidate for Devonshire North West, while the OBA has confirmed that Glen Smith, the incumbent, will run for the OBA again in the area.

…the dirt was done at the last election to the good people of C14 by Cox. The good people of C14 taught Cox a good lesson although it appears that Cox likes issues! Independent? Cross the floor Cox,stop fooling around.
And so the architect of the PLP’s 2012 loss returns in a blaze of glory to attempt to cause another loss. People should be reminded that if it wasn’t for Paula Cox deliberately delaying an election until after the UBP had re-assembled into the OBA we wouldn’t even be in this predicament. These three videos are the most convincing argument to vote for Wayne Caines. This is the voice of yesterday and this election is about the future. And by the way, this isn’t the conduct of a team player as Ms. Cox claimed she was in those leaked emails from last week; but then we knew that all along.
You are right, if the PLP were still in power we wouldn’t be in this predicament; IB returning to Bermuda, economy growing again, public debt finally beginning to shrink, tourism on the rise.
We still be saddled with a government intent on borrowing to pay for debt, a public debt in excess of $2.5B (conservatively), a government that inspired businesses to leave our shores with their jobs, a tourism department being run as a government friends and family payout plan.
Ya, we are in such a worse predicament with an OBA government.
Yep she was responsible for the 2012 loss, I knew that if she didn’t put her foot down and stop Colonel Burch from running, it would be all over for the PLP.

Lets evaluate the videos and some of the candidate’s more recent performance more critically.
1) A non-Bermudian is being used as the consultant to advise someone who has not been part of public or community life since December 2012. So already you can see how the messaging is disconnected, stale and cold these messages and the 19 second music video are all weak and unemotional.
2) In the months leading up to the December 2012 general election, the Candidate randomly selected candidates to run in seats either by hastily called central committee meetings where some delegates received less than 24 hours notice of the meetings.
3) The only regular community event the Candidate keeps fixed in their diary for the past 20 years are the lunches or dinners at Ascots where a few advisors and 3 close friends are invited to reminisce on past accomplishments.
4) Outside Premier Dame Jennifer and former Minister Patrice Minors the Candidate did not have any time whatsoever for the women in the party, its like there was a contempt if you weren’t close to Dame Lois and that past era of their Ascendency.
5) Candidate has a new full time job as internal legal counsel at an IB insurance company and does not have the physically or emotional stamina to juggle the demands of a full time career as a Bermuda insurance lawyer which is a 40 – 50 hour a week responsibility, with the work the PLP will need to do to continue Moving Bermuda Forward.
6) The Candidate has still failed to accept or shoulder any responsibility for the PLP’s crushing defeat and has not accepted any of the recommendations made in the PLP’s own post-election post mortem report.
7) Winning 50 votes, to dilute the PLPs potential win in a marginal seat, how does this re-validate you as a Politician? Please explain, is this about ego?
8) Has never managed people, or garnered community support around any important community issue in 20 years. Has never demonstrated any emotion towards critical community issues.

Same tactic individuals use regarding those who have a right to have their own opinion regarding homosexuality (now known as same sex marriage. In my opinion, she should use her experiences to mentor all of the up and coming candidates. That is called supporting your party, not going against them and splitting the votes.

There is no doubt in my mind that Paula Cox allowed unfettered spending by the plp government once she became the Finance Minister.
She was unable and perhaps unwilling to stop the virtual bankrupting of our country by her bretheren. As a “cog” she did what she was told by others who clearly were not interested in the benefit of the people of our blighted country.
As a voter in C-14 she will never have my vote regardless of her political affiliation.
Most of the spending was already underway when she came in !
It’s too bad that Ms Cox is employing a old trick that PLP politicians and so-called PLP supporters use to do to win internal battles.

Paula is doing the right thing for the PLP in the short term and the long term regardless of whether they win the upcoming election. The jerk is trying to consolidate his power through his surrogates and will plunge Bermuda into financial and social crisis, hopefully others in the party will step up and support you… he is the wrong one to let back in… don’t let him deceive you all again… think about your children, the guy has very poor character

thanks for highlighting the main FACTS why Premier Cox should abandon this ill-advised “campaign” if you can call it that, you mentioned:

The bottom line is that Mr. Caines is a very impressive, serious candidate running in a seat that should be in play – turnout will be the key and PLP voters need to show up this time. If Ms. Cox is serious about helping the party as opposed to seeking one more coronation, I suggest she run against Bob Richards in his constituency and highlight his government’s failures, one door at a time.
While I am on my soap box, what is sad about this election is most of the OBA government’s profoundly bad decisions are not going to resonate for about a year to eighteen months from now. Apart from the great airport sell out, there has been an incredible betrayal of local business – higher taxes all around on the real employers employing thousands of barely getting by Bermudians while their fat cat accountant and lawyer cronies keep on laughing all the way to the bank. The disparity is disgusting and a betrayal of the aspirations of these hard working folks.
One might also add, from an economic perspective, AC35 has essentially flopped, unless of course you are one of the chosen few in the village. Also, if it does not come back, well what did we really get from it other than more debt?
Paula has a lot to bring to the table based on her experience and I do believe she has ethics (unlike some in the PLP). Maybe the best place for her is the Senate?

Please I beg, spend some time talking to PLP delegates and members of Cabinet about this so called ethics you claim is the sole domain of Madam Coronation, her highest moment was that speech she gave to crush Terry Lister and Dale Butler, her coronation at Devonshire Rec was her best moment after that everything went down hill and the clique of politicians who feel they inherited the PLP after the sad passing of Mr Wade and Dame Lois, well hopefully someone will write a book on what really happened
She was responsible for much of the debt Bermuda is in – don’t forget she was holding the purse strings for many years, and more to the point did not do her job in speaking up when EB was being so reckless. Shame on her. I will never forget the shock on her face when so many ignored her as they walked in to the polling station. She was so arrogant and never even came to visit half the houses during the campaign, unlike Glen Smith who has not stopped supporting every one of his constituents since the election.
The thought of her and Burt teaming up to control our finances is frightening.

If not then I fully stand by Paula’s right to run as the PLP candidate based on the rules of the constitution of the PLP. Burt’s waffle about rules were changed sounds incredibly suspect, when the branch is not aware of it. I recall him waffling about a speech.
I’d suggest Paula use her knowledge of Burt to put his arrogance into perspective. If Burt does not step into line, then his next step will be out of the door.

And as for me if you cant be honest about a question that the whole world knows the correct answer to , that says you cant be honest about big things that I know not about either.
