Police Confirm Death Of Woman In Pembroke
[Updated] Police and EMTs responded to Cedar Avenue this morning [Feb 10] after an “unresponsive woman was found in her residence.”
Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said, “Police and EMTs responded to an incident that took place on Cedar Avenue in Pembroke at 7am this morning [Saturday].
“Upon police arrival it was ascertained that an unresponsive woman was found in her residence. An on call doctor was notified and her death was certified.
“No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. Foul play at this point is not suspected.”
Update Feb 11, 11.23am: The police said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 88-year-
old Virginia Smith and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends.
“Ms. Smith was found in an unresponsive state inside the Cedar Avenue, Pembroke residence where she lived, around 7am Saturday [February 10th].
“She was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by the attending doctor. Foul play is not suspected. However, an autopsy is anticipated.”
Update Feb 12, 12.54pm: The police said, “The Bermuda Police Service would like to clarify that Ms. Virginia Deborah Kay Smith – who was found in an unresponsive state inside the Cedar Avenue, Pembroke residence where she lived around 7am Saturday [February 10th] and later pronounced dead at the scene by an attending doctor – is better known as Kay by her family and friends.
“In addition, Ms. Smith’s next of kin later confirmed her age to be 81 years old, not 88 as originally stated in a police media release Sunday [February 11th].
“We apologise to Ms. Smith’s family for any distress these inadvertent errors may have caused.”
