OBA Appoint Nick Kempe As Senate Leader
Nick Kempe is to “rejoin the One Bermuda Alliance as the Party’s new Senate leader,” the OBA announced today.
“After a year of apathy and silence from the Opposition, I was pleased to see Craig Cannonier lead the Parliamentary group in into action. This gave me hope all was not lost. I am rejoining the OBA now after a year away because Craig agrees we must change course,” said Mr Kempe.
“I joined a political party for the first time in 2011 and Craig as OBA Leader backed me to become a candidate. Craig has an incredible ability to engage people and get them involved.
“Let us be abundantly clear – the One Bermuda Alliance was a party founded in Opposition based on the need for change as both the options in Government and Opposition had been failing Bermuda.
“If the OBA is unable to own its own identity and have a House of Assembly dominated by its own candidates and not those representing inherited political philosophies, what was the point of project started by the Alliance,” said Mr Kempe, who previously served as an OBA Senator and as Party Chairman, resigning as Chairman back in November 2017.
Mr Cannonier — who was sworn in as Opposition Leader last week — said Mr Kempe’s appointment was the first of many that he would be announcing and added: “Nick’s absence has been keenly felt within the Party. He has the steady hand and the kind of political experience that would be an asset to any party.
“Bringing Nick back into the fold was a priority. His appointment is the first piece of the jigsaw. When that jigsaw is finished, people will see a different OBA, one that is renewed and revitalized, which will stand up to the PLP and which will prepare to be the next Government.”
Wow, would never have seen this coming..(sarcasm).
Like no one saw this one coming!
Why is there so much hype around Kempe?
No idea. He was raised with the same financial privileges as the UBP ‘villains’ but somehow sees himself as a common man.
Jealousy rears it ugly head again!!
You mean like your Premier who attended Saltus? Ha ha ha!!!!!
And a nice military school in the US where he could afford to learn how to fly
Are you mixing Burt with Marc Bean. Bean learned to fly and not Burt. Start with a falsehood and now we can talk about you inability to tell the truth.
NK was part of the BDA, his appointment brings the time when the OBA dumps its UBP remnants that much closer.
Nick has always voted UBP. Now he wants to kick them to the sidewalk. Another flip flop is all i see.
Kind of like Wayne Furbert, Kim Swan, Jamahl Simmons.
All the flip flops had a free transfer to the plp
To who knows.
You are way out of line.
He was not “raised with the same financial priviledges.
OH, by the way…get a life.
yea he is privileged with and education and brains. Forget him, lets elect ignoramuses that couldnt run a lemonade stand…oh wait we done that already.
“He has the steady hand and the kind of political experience that would be an asset to any party.”
what political experience? He ran in two elections, and served briefly as a Senator. I agree that he may have value, but let’s not go overboard with the accolades.
“If the OBA is unable to own its own identity and have a House of Assembly dominated by its own candidates and not those representing inherited political philosophies, what was the point of project started by the Alliance”
What *is* the difference between the political philosophies of the UBP and the OBA? Honest question.
Perhaps Wayne Furbert or Kim Swan could tell us, since they were both UBP leaders.
The real Question is why so many black Bermudians have departed from the UBPoba over the years. The Question stays away from that and prefers to throw Mt Dunkely out like a sacrificial lamb claiming we are getting away from the UBP. Attacking your very own members is a dog eat dog sentence. The party is made up of 6% black voters and 94% white voters since last election,
something is truly odd
when is the leaders election for OBA
OBA members are just allowing anything to happen
Plain weird. So is the beard thing. And to think we actually pay these morons!
Beard shaming is not acceptable in 2018. It’s not weird, it’s just a beard, not to be interfered with, sheared or seared, sneered at, smeared, jeered or feared, simply revered even when commandeered and premiered.
Lyrics!!!
Yes for those lyrics!
Careful Alicia, your class is showing.
I hope so.
Yeah he’s lived with privilege but Nick Kempe is a quality man. He puts the work in and understands the process. He and his OBA colleagues won’t have any power at all but he will be an effective senator by keeping the PLP to account.
What is all this ‘privilege’ crap ? What privilege exactly has he had ?
Can anyone prove he and his family didn’t work for anything they have and never had to make hard and sensible choices to get to where they are ?
Where in an are now where it’s fashionable to accuse a certain group in Bda of privilege without knowing one iota about their personal background and it’s outright ridiculous that people buy into this nonsense .
All they need to have is a certain qualification .. it would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. But it’s a great way to keep the division alive.
He is clearly deserving of any position he may achieve. Thank you Nick for caring for your Island home.
So you dont think white people didnt have a 300 year head start on Black people, that the social and economic status has been racially biased, that banks are more likely to give loans to whites, that a Black IB worker gets paid less then their white counter part with the same credentials, that being whites had the economic and social advantage ( through Historical and generational inheritance)and smart business decissions AND that if a Black Bermudian rents an expensive car in the US is more likley to get stopped by Police (and possibly shoot)then if a white Bermudian did?
Fashionable my @$$
Thats REALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Privilege. Is that where you get a $1.2m government handout to help run your business?
Spot on!
No that was REPARATION.
It was the people’s money
It was the People’s money when we gave to Billionaiers to have a sailboat race too.
Except we didn’t give any money to billionaires. It was spent here.
The $1.2m was given to a rich millionaire businessman who lives outside Bermuda, donated for the sole reason of boosting his profits. Corporate welfare.
Unearned privilege.
It hasn’t been the people’s money for a long time now. Let’s be really honest about the situation and call it the “ creditors money “ . Also , it is really depressing reading comments minimizing the positive impacts of Bermuda attempting to join the world by hosting a global event. Honestly , Man !
Still repeating the same old lies.
My party should be afraid, very afraid
which party is that ?
so who was dropped from the senate they are only allowed 3 hmmm
so what happens next to the milkman
Nandi was dropped.
Milkman is an MP and it’s doubtful he is going anywhere. Especially if you figure that if he did step down, that’s one more PLP seat. On the other hand, it really is time for him to go.
I hope she knows now like simons that she was just a pawn
All of ‘some’ types people in the OBA are pawns. Look how they used Craig.. folks better wake up.
Intenational Businesses are re thinking their situation in Bermuda and 1000′s of former residents (Bermudians) have left.
It appears Bermuda will not survive much longer on the world stage.
Why is this you may well ask,
open your eyes and ears and listen to the rhetoric pouring out of people’s mouths on a daily basis.
I agree with you but (eyes wideopen), I wouldn’t want to be continuously, listening to people all killing the goose that’s keeps this country in the position it is in,once they go you will see because then it will be know coming back for Bermuda so Bermuda keep chasing you’ll get your wish, you want know expats,it’s coming.
The smart money started to leave Bermuda around the time of the first talk of independence. It started as a trickle. Must be in full flood by now. From the jewel in the Atlantic to Haiti here we come all within one generation.
You do know that Haiti had to pay France $21 Billion because they slaughtered the French Army and France lost their economic power in the sugar industry became the first western country to be ruled by freed slaves.
Europeans created a mess around the world and the point their fingers in shame.
How come none of the plp supporters that commented here, haven’t commented on where the plp gave Dr brown more money??
We must ask the hard questions ,” Do we have three political parties ? Could the UBP break off from the OBA and go it on their own ? They have the money , the computers , the secured constituencies , the loyal people , the workers ,the safe seats ,etc , etc, all to give the OBA a run for their money . Will M.D seek to lead the UBP again ? Are there people in a closed room this weekend planning to take the OBA down ? Will people strike back for the hurt caused to Mrs. Atherden ? These are real issues within the hearts of men .They smile in your face , all the while they want to take your place .
What are you talking about? Why wouldn’t the UBP break off from the PLP and go on their own? Swan, Furbert and Simmons? Two ex-leaders and a bag carrier.
congrats Nick thank god ,now the OBA will have a strong voice again in the senate no thanks to clueless Nandi ..she was not effective as an M.P. please please Craig let her go!
