Police: 911 Is Now Operational, 295-0011 Is Not

May 15, 2019

[Updated] The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service [BFRS] are asking the public to call 292-5555 for all emergencies of a medical or fire nature until further notice.

A BFRS spokesperson said, “Due to technical difficulties experienced at the police communications center we are asking the public to call 292-5555 and press 0 for all emergencies of a medical or fire nature until further notice.”

Update 9.18am: The police posted online saying, “Due to an incident at the BPS Data Centre this morning, 911 & 295-0011 are not working. The situation is being addressed as a priority. Until further notice, members of the public that require police or emergency assistance are asked to please call: 295-0064, 292-0012, 292-7403, 292-1707, 292-5590. An update will be provided as soon as the regular telephone numbers are operational again.”

Update 1.35pm: According to an online post by the police, “911 is now operational. The main police telephone number 295-0011 is still out of service and work continues to bring all systems back online as soon as possible. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding.”

Update 3.50pm: A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] can confirm that service to the 911 emergency telephone number has been restored.

“However, technicians continue working to restore service to the main police telephone number 295-0011. A power outage incident at the BPS Data Centre this morning caused 911 and 295-0011 to fail.

“The situation is being addressed as a priority and the public will be informed when service is fully restored. The BPS apologises for any inconvenience caused and we thank the public for their understanding while repairs are carried out.”
