Photos & Video: Relay For Life Event Underway
[Updated with photos] The Relay For Life event is getting underway at the National Sports Centre this evening [May 17] with the Survivors Lap and Team Parade.
The Mission of Relay for Life Bermuda is to raise awareness and funds to support access to cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and support provided by Bermuda Cancer & Health Centre.

Ironic that this great event happens the same day the government votes to increase the cost of healthcare by $2,500 to $5,000 a year for the average family.
I think for some people, the significance of Relay for Life has been lost. It has become a place to be seen drinking and partying. This is well and good but during certain moments, it should be noted what Relay for Life is all about.
The survivor/caregiver lap is important and should be noted as such. There were people on the track that should not have been at the time that they were walking.
During the Luminaria lap, it should be a special time for those that are fighting this terrible disease and for loved ones to remember those that have lost their fight. Even though the lights were turned off, people were not silent and continued to drink and carry on.
