Cycling: Conyers & Hopkins Win Gold In Cuba
Caitlin Conyers raced to victory in the women’s time trial cycling race on the iconic Malecon in Havana this morning [Nov 2], while Kaden Hopkins also claimed gold medals in the Elite and U23 categories.
Setting a time which was over a minute faster than the second place finisher from Cuba, Conyers delivered a gold medal for Bermuda.
In the men’s time trial Conor White and Kaden Hopkins took to the start ramp with Hopkins turning in a performance that netted him the overall fastest time, resulting in him receiving the gold medals for the Elite and U23 divisions.
As Hopkins was the Junior Caribbean champion in 2018 and now the 2019 Elite champion, the Bermuda Bicycle Association explained that he is believed to be the first ever junior to become the Elite title holder.
Racing continues tomorrow on the same course for the road race where Gabriella Arnold will join Conyers in the women’s event, and Dominique Mayho will join White and Hopkins in the men’s field.
Congratulations Caitlin Conyers! Well deserved after all your hard work,!
