Tennis: USC Upstate Signs Shelby Madeiros
University of South Carolina announced the signing of Shelby Madeiros, with the Bermudian tennis player set to join the team next fall.
The school’s announcement said, “USC Upstate head women’s tennis coach Tim McLane has announced the signing of Shelby Madeiros out of Bermuda.
“We are really excited to have Shelby [Madeiros] joining USC Upstate next fall,” McLane said. “She’s a great student and has a great personality that will fit in well with our team. Shelby is a good athlete with a ton of upside and the potential to really grow her game during her collegiate career, and we’re pretty pumped to see how she will improve and contribute during her time in Spartanburg.”
“Madeiros is currently attending IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla and has been ranked as high as 2,452 in the International Tennis Federation [ITF] Junior World rankings. This past August Madeiros had her best finish ever at an ITF junior tournament reaching the second round of the main draw in the Grade 5 Castries, Saint Lucia event.
“Currently Madeiros is has a Universal Tennis Rating [UTR] of 7.33 but reached a 7.61 rating earlier this fall. Madeiros will join the USC Upstate tennis team in the fall of 2020.”
