Three Videos: Two Boats On Fire In Dockyard
[Updated] Fourteen firefighters from the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service [BFRS] – along with six appliances - battled a blaze at Dockyard on Sunday evening [Jan 12], and three videos showing the fire are below.
Following the response, a BFRS spokesperson said, “At 6:27pm the BFRS received a call reporting a house boat on fire at the Dockyard in Sandys.
“The BFRS responded with six appliances and a total of 14 firefighters. On arrival, firefighters found two vessels approximately 50’ in length completely involved in flames. At this time the cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the fire investigators.”
Update January 23, 8.30am: A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Bermuda Radio were contacted regarding a fire onboard the house boat Wine Down [51ft], located in the Northern part of Pier 41 Marina, Dockyard. Reports indicated the fire had also spread to a neighboring boat, Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service and Marine Police were quickly on scene and both vessels were found engulfed in flames, the second vessel to catch fire was Aurelia [66ft].
“Fortunately, the occupant of the houseboat had been able to escape ashore and raise the alarm and no injuries resulted from the incident. Both vessels sank as a result of the fire which created pollution from the diesel onboard, The Department of Environment and Natural Resources were informed of the pollution incident and the affected area was boomed off and oil and debris were removed.”
