Butterfield Supports WRC Voucher Appeal
The Bank of N.T. Butterfield contributed $1,000 to the Women’s Resource Centre’s [WRC] grocery voucher appeal.
A spokesperson said, “The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited today contributed $1,000 to the Women’s Resource Centre’s grocery voucher appeal. The appeal came about after the charity was deluged with calls from mothers, who were left unemployed due to the COVID-19 health crisis, at home with their children and in need of food.
“Fittingly, Butterfield’s funds were raised by its Bermuda-based employees during the Bank’s recent International Women’s Day [IWD] celebrations. In addition to Butterfield’s sponsorship of Bermuda’s IWD public event at city hall on Friday, 6 March, employees were invited to wear purple and participate in a fundraising denim day.
“Employee funds were matched by Butterfield bringing the total to $1,000, which will be used by the Women’s Resource Centre to provide ten $100 grocery vouchers for needy families.
“Butterfield employees across its ten international jurisdictions participated in various IWD engagement and fundraising activities to help local women’s charities, voice Butterfield’s support for a gender equal corporate environment, and to commemorate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe.”
Michael Neff, Managing Director―Bermuda, said, “As a community bank, Butterfield is committed to playing our role in helping our neighbours during these challenging times.
“I’m extremely proud of my colleagues and their fundraising efforts to support the Women’s Resource Centre and acknowledge the important work that the charity does for Bermuda.
“Together with Butterfield’s support of the urgent meal programme with our partner The Loren Hotel, to deliver healthy meals to senior citizens and vulnerable people, and our efforts to reduce financial strain on the economy, we are doing what we can to support the people of Bermuda during this time of heightened need.”
Elaine Butterfield, the executive director of the Women’s Resource Centre, said, “We are very grateful to receive the support of The Butterfield Group and employees on behalf of our clients.
“Their support will allow us to provide our valued clients with grocery vouchers, counselling and emotional support that is so necessary during these unprecedented times.
“Their partnership will allow the WRC to remain in a position of support beyond the immediate demand, to ensure extended support that will be necessary.”
The spokesperson said, “Unemployed women with children of any age can contact the WRC at 533-3882 and leave a message if your call is not immediately answered, from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday to apply for a voucher, or by email at wrc@wrcbermuda.com.”
