Over $18,000 Raised For Kenneita Wade

June 26, 2020

An online fundraiser is aiming to raise money to aid with the medical expenses of Kenneita Wade, a mother of two that was the victim of an attack on June 19.

The effort has raised $18,933 of its $50,000 goal as of today [June 26], with over 200 people having donated.

The GoFundMe page says, “On June 19, 2020 a vicious, malicious, and unprovoked attack on the mother of two during a home invasion with a machete weapon left her with serious injuries and debilitating aftermath.

“Her injuries were so severe that it has left her with life-long, life-altering handicaps that will require her to need medical aides such as prosthetics, ongoing therapy, and the continuous support to care for her two young children, only aged ten and six.

“The expense of her ongoing medical care and devices alone are estimated to be $50,000. These aides will be necessary to provide Kenneita with the functionality she will need to make her life somewhat adjustable as she begins a different life.

“Kenneita is a mother, daughter, sister, and treasured friend to all, and this attack, although surviving, has undoubtedly created many unfortunate realities for her life and the life of her children. We ask as her family and friends that all communities can rally around her and send support through donations as soon as possible.

“Raising funds for Kenneita’s medical expenses is the beginning of rebuilding a family’s life after devastation.

“Families make our communities and this is an opportunity to give a family some assurance after security has been stolen, breached, and violated to such a degree. We ask that you donate to Kenneita so that she can regain her place in our community.”

The official notices on June 24 listed a Temporary Fundraising Licence T2097 issued to “Medical Expenses For Kenneita Wade in accordance with the Charities Act 2014, section 43 [5].”

The police previously said, “The group of men responsible for committing this senseless and brutal attack on an unarmed woman remain at large, however the investigation is being actively progressed by the BPS Serious Crime Unit who are seeking to hear from anyone who has any information, no matter if you believe it to be insignificant to please make contact with Detective Sergeant Dean Martin on telephone numbers; 717-2074 and/or 247-1739.

“Persons wishing to share information can also contact police by calling 211 or the main police number 295-0011. Those persons who are reluctant to speak with police directly can call the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477.”

  1. Unprovoked? says:

Didn’t Caine’s say the cases were related? So how is this unprovoked?

    • Common Sense says:

The cases being related and this young woman being attacked are not mutually exclusive. I am sure you must’ve heard of family members of people involved in not so good behaviour being retaliated against. The point is, she did nothing to provok the attack – she was not involved in some sort of altercation with the men that attacked her, and the men were not known to her, making it unprovoked.

  2. Provocation is not the issue. The current issue is that Kenneita needs at least $50,000 from the generous Bermuda public.
This precious lady’s life is altered for all of her living days.
    We need to give generously!!
