Oil Tanker Diverts To Island, Crew Member Dies
An oil tanker — traveling from Spain to Texas — diverted to Bermuda after a crew member onboard suffered a suspected stroke, and unfortunately a few hours prior to the vessel’s arrival the crew member passed away.
A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “The 62877grt Maltese Registered Oil Tanker Seatrust, in a position 285 miles east of Bermuda on passage from Cartagena, Spain to Corpus Christi, Texas, contacted the U.S Coast Guard by satellite telephone as a crew member onboard had suffered a suspected stroke.
“RCC Bermuda were connected into a conference call and following medical advice from the Coast Guard the tanker diverted to Bermuda. On Sunday afternoon a few hours before arrival off Bermuda, the sick crew member’s condition deteriorated and sadly, he died.
“The deceased seafarer was transferred to the Pilot / Rescue Boat St David to be repatriated.”
