Video: ‘Taking Off’ Highlights Airport’s Pond
Skyport has released the latest episode of ‘Taking Off’, a video series with host Mikaela Pearman that highlights the airport redevelopment project, with this episode highlighting the airport’s pond.
Speaking in the episode, Mikaela Pearman said, “Work resumed on the construction site the first week of May once shelter in place was lifted. And everyone working on the site has been busy making up for the lost time.
“One of the interesting parts of the exterior is the pond. Although you can’t see if when you drive past, you would’ve seen it in drone shots that we’ve posted on social media.
“The purpose of the pond is groundside stormwater management for water that has essentially passed through its useful cycle.
“The pond retains all surface water runoff, and any overflow from the underground water holding tank that collects rainwater from the new terminal roof.
“Any water collected from the roadways enters into an oil and grid separator first, before entering into the pond.
“If the pond was to ever fill up, it has its own overflow pipe which you may have seen from Kindley Field Road, that will drain into a borehole.
“In the event of a hundred year storm, additional measures are in place to have the water drain into the ocean.
“So it’s not just a pretty pond!“
It is ugly as hell and will attract mosquitos. Hopefully the finished product will look cleaner!
