PLP: “We Call On The OBA To Cool Out”

August 27, 2020

“We call on the OBA to ‘cool out’ with the attacks and focus on the issues that matter to Bermudians,” the PLP said.

A spokesperson said, “First, the OBA questioned the Premier’s loyalty to Bermuda and Bermudians. Now, they are attacking Renee Webb, who is not even a candidate, on personal issues that have absolutely nothing to do with the issues facing the country today.

“We call on the OBA to ‘cool out’ with the attacks and focus on the issues that matter to Bermudians.

“The OBA is desperately attempting to stifle legitimate freedom of speech in an effort to deflect from their weak, untrustworthy leadership and poor performance. The fact is that while the OBA seeks to stifle criticism and scrambles to attract candidates, we are focused on delivering for Bermudians.

“We have an economic recovery to deal with. And, our records when it comes to the economy are very different. The OBA sold our airport to a foreign company and now taxpayers are having to shell out millions because of their bad deal. They underfunded our schools and spent money on a boat race for millionaires and billionaires. Morgan’s Point was dead on arrival. And, under their watch, 2,000 Bermudian jobs were lost.

“Prior to COVID, the PLP created 650 new jobs in Bermuda. We reduced payroll tax for workers to the lowest rate in history. We reduced red tape and eliminated taxes for startup companies creating jobs for Bermudians. And, we kept our campaign promise to double funding to Bermudian businesses through the BEDC. Our policies put Bermudians first.

“At the end of the day, this election is about leadership. It is clear that the OBA prefers attacking people personally rather than seeking to serve the people. If you disapprove of this kind of gutter leadership and attacks, we ask for your support because we offer strong leadership that works for all of us.”

Enjoy wearing shoes made from old tires and Pedigree meals as the PLP takes you to Fourth World Status.

This is already getting pathetic and there’s 5 weeks to go. Just let the PLP get back in and sort out their mess they created since 2006. (Eugene Cox did a good job). All the while more people are leaving and tax revenues are reducing. Just wait for this time next year when the “savings” implemented this year are rolled back. Another $150m of real dollars to find.

  3. PLP LIES LIES LIES says:

This entire press release is an act of desperation by the PLP. It’s obvious when you read the blogs online that no one is buying their smoke and mirrors. Their lack of success on any front front and decimation of the economy is plain for all to see. Now they’re outright lying about creating new jobs. Rehiring staff in the already bloated civil service at a time when our population continues to decline is not creating jobs, it economic suicide. The only people in Bermuda who’s lives have improved in any way since the election are the many friends and family of the political elite. Their priorities were clear after the election when one of their first decisions was to pay a former Premier $1.2M of taxpayers money.

I recognize David Burt’s solid and inclusive leadership for Bermudians. I urge other white Bermudians to look past party lines and vote for good leadership. We all know the PLP leadership under Dr. Brown was at a completely lower level that no one wants to return to. Burt, in my opinion, deserves to be reelected for another term. Bermuda needs him at this time.

No one is buying it. The PLP are failing, they are using public money for party political purposes, they have destroyed Bermuda’s economy and have no idea or vision on what to do next. Don’t look to the OBA, you, the PLP are the government and have been for almost 20 of the last 23 years. It’s on you.

All of those small businesses the PLP so “compassionately” assisted are all stuffed if there isn’t demand for goods & services. As emphatically demonstrated by the inflation figures and the fact the the Min. of Finance just mortgaged the debt to overseas speculators, the economy is in real trouble. There is no liquidity.

The fact remains that the economy was in trouble before COVID, anaemic as described by committee that has met 14 times but provided nothing, all the pandemic did was hasten our further demise.

The failing economy rests squarely on the shoulders of 20 years of PLP status quo. The most recent three years have seen promises broken, opportunities squandered and a desert of ideas.

The PLP have saddled generations of Bermudians with debt. It’s their fault. No amount of tinkering with red tape will fix that.

  5. Unbelievable says:

    “Cool out”?

How rich fo the PLP to call for time out only a week after the election was called. They should know (but they won’t accept or believe) that this election is a referendum ON the PLP. If the OBA is going negative it’s because the PLP STILL hasn’t given any concrete plans on how to turn around the economy. And so no, the OBA will should not “cool out”. Fix what you damn well broke.

The PLP really are the country’s elites now.

  6. Cool Out? says:

Now isn’t that calling the kettle black?! Take a chill pill PLP! Your negativity is constant and tired!
