Man Injured In Industrial Accident In St George’s

[Updated] There was an industrial accident in St. George’s this morning [Sept 17] with a “trailer full of metal hollow ribs” falling on a man “causing injuries to his legs, arms and abdominal area,” the BFRS has confirmed.

A spokesperson said, “At 9:06am this morning a call was received by Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service Dispatch reporting an industrial accident Wellington Slip Road in St. Georges. A trailer full of metal hollow ribs had fallen on a male causing injuries to his legs, arms and abdominal area.

“The BFRS responded with 3 appliances from Clearwater Station, 2 appliances from Hamilton Station and a total of 10 firefighters.

“Upon arrival, fire crews saw a male trapped under metal hollow rib. A forklift was used to remove the metal and the patient was transported top KEMH. The cause of the accident is under investigation.”

Update 4.45pm: A police spokesperson said, “Shortly after 9:00 a.m. today, Thursday 17th September, police received reports of an industrial accident on Wellington Slip Road, St. Georges.

“Indications are a 36-year-old male sustained lacerations to his right arm, a broken right leg and injuries to his torso, after a large metal crate reportedly fell on him.

“The injured male was transported via ambulance, to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where at last check he was undergoing surgery for his injuries.”
