Football: BBC Sports Highlights Clyde Best

October 12, 2020

Bermudian football legend Clyde Best was highlighted this past weekend on BBC Sports programme Football Focus, with the associated story calling him “the most prominent black player in English football.”

The BBC Sports story said, “Harry Redknapp tells the story of Clyde Best, a teenager from Bermuda who joined West Ham in the 1960s and went on to become the most prominent black player in English football.

“Clyde Best was speaking to Sporting Witness on the BBC World Service.”

Bermudian footballer Shaun Goater tweeted, “Thank you Sir Clyde Best for your sacrifice! With no Clyde Best there’s no Les Ferndinand, Ian Wright to Fernandinho and so on. Thank you @WestHam for your bravery!”
