Rugby World Tens Series Referees Announced

October 8, 2020

JP Doyle, Adam Leal, and Scott Green were selected as the match officials for the inaugural World Tens Series, which will be held in Bermuda from October 24 until November 7.

The World Tens website said, “JP Doyle has been confirmed as one of three match officials selected for next month’s World Tens Series in Bermuda.

“The vastly experienced Doyle has officiated on top-flight rugby for the last 14 years and signs up for the World Tens Series following his release from the RFU earlier this year.

“The Irishman has taken charge of International Test matches and was selected as a match official for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Doyle has refereed over 150 Premiership fixtures and has been a regular in European Champions and Challenge Cup matches during the last decade.

“Adam Leal and Scott Green will join Doyle for the series that gets underway on 24 October and runs across three consecutive weekends at the Bermuda National Stadium, culminating with the Final on 7 November.

“Leal, who has officiated on Gallagher Premiership fixtures this season, will also be heading to Bermuda to take charge of the Tens matches. He has been a referee with the RFU since 2013 and is another match official that will bring a great deal of experience when he lands in Bermuda.

“American referee, Scott Green, is the third member of the trio and widely regarded as one of the top match officials in the MLR. This is backed up by the fact he officiated in the last two MLR Finals. A senior match official with the Texas Rugby Referee Association for several years, Scott achieved USA Rugby National Panel recognition in 2013.

Referee Doyle commented, “I’m really looking forward to the World Tens Series. I think it’s a unique, new opportunity that a lot of people will be enthused about.

“From my side, I want to help create an environment where the best players can flourish and show their best talents – whether that be the heavier guys in the front row that will still want to scrummage or whether it’s the searing backs that might come from sevens. I think there will be an avenue for players to showcase high end talent that maybe we haven’t seen before in other games.”

“JP, Adam, and Scott are three brilliant match officials and it is great that they have agreed to be part of our inaugural series in Bermuda” said World Tens Series COO, Paul Holmes.

“All three are excited to be involved in this format of the game and deserve the opportunity they have been presented.

“Having experienced match officials on-board for this series was a key part of our criteria to build the credibility of the World Tens Series. I look forward to working with JP, Adam, and Scott in Bermuda.”
