Regiment ‘Blank Firing’ Exercise Tonight

The Royal Bermuda Regiment has advised that they will be “conducting a blank firing exercise at Hog Bay Park in Sandys” tonight [Feb 27] so “any reports of gunshots this evening can likely be attributed to this exercise.”

A spokesperson said, “Please be advised that the Regiment is conducting a blank firing exercise at Hog Bay Park in Sandys tonight.

“Any reports of gunshots this evening can likely be attributed to this exercise.

“Signs have been posted advising the public, BPS COMOPS were advised in advance, and we posted the following notice on Facebook on Friday:

“A Company-Training Notice [Blank Ammunition & Pyrotechnics]

  • 1. The Royal Bermuda Regiment will be exercising inside the HOG’S BAY area and will be using Blank Ammunition and Pyrotechnics on 27 & 28 February 2021.
  • 2. The Public are requested to stay clear of the soldiers exercising. The exercise is designed to teach and assess our soldiers’ skills in an outdoor environment.
  • 3. Please note, there is no restriction of access to the area for the duration of the exercise. You may gain access via the normal routes throughout this period of training.

“This is along similar lines to what we posted earlier in the week when new recruits were exercising in the same area.”
