Covid: 34 New Positive Cases, Now 184 Active

March 25, 2021

The Ministry received 1191 test results and 34 were positive for Covid-19 — one classified as imported, 15 as local transmission with known contact and 18 as under investigation — so the island’s tally of active cases has increased to 184.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Health received 1191 test results since the last update, and 34 were positive for COVID-19. One of the new cases are classified as imported by a resident who arrived on Jet Blue B62231 from New York on 19 March 2021 and tested positive on their Day four [4] test.

“Fifteen of the new cases are classified as local transmission with known contact as they are associated with known cases. The additional 18 new cases are classified as under investigation. These cases are among residents with no currently identified link to other known cases or history of travel in the past 14 days.

“Additionally, since the last update, there were no recoveries.

“There are currently 184 active cases, of which;

  • All 184 are under public health monitoring and;
  • None are in the hospital, and none in critical care.

“Since March 2020, Bermuda has recorded 914 total confirmed cases of COVID-19; out of those, 718 persons have recovered, and 12 persons have sadly succumbed to COVID-19.

“The mean age of all confirmed positive cases is 41 years [median: 39 years], and the ages range from less than one year to greater than 100 years.

“The mean age of all currently active cases is 32 years [median: 32 years], and the ages range from less than ten years [age group: 0-9 years] to greater than 80 years [age group: 80-100 years].

“The mean age of all deceased cases is 75 years [median: 77 years], and the ages range from less than 60 years [age group: 50-59 years] to greater than 80 years [age group: 80-100 years].

“The source of all cases is as follows:

  • 238 are Imported
  • 627 are classified as local transmission of which:
  • 535 are local transmission with known contact/source and
  • 92 are local transmission with an unknown contact/source
  • 49 are under investigation

“As investigations proceed, transmission categories may change.

“Of the over 190,000 test results reported, the mean age of all persons tested is 43 years [median:  42 years], and the ages range from less than one [1] year to greater than 100 years.

“The seven-day average of our real-time reproduction number is above one [1], and Bermuda’s current country status is “Sporadic Cases”.

“Please stay home if you have been told to quarantine,” said Kim Wilson, JP, MP, Minister of Health “I realise I may sound like a broken record, but this needs to be repeated often.”

“Persons in quarantine are required to stay home for 14 days, and separate themselves from others within their household [particularly those at high risk of catching the virus], monitor their health, and follow public health guidelines. The more you circulate, the more chances the virus gets to circulate. When you isolate you decrease the opportunity for this virus to spread.”

“If you are in quarantine, you must not attend social engagements, your place of employment, public places, public transport, grocery stores, etc. Non-essential visitors must not enter the home. For children in quarantine, the child’s main caregiver[s] and close contacts within the home, who cannot separate from the child [separate bedroom and bathroom, no common spaces], must also remain at home.

“Other household members, including brothers and sisters, who can separate from a child in quarantine within the home are not required to remain at home unless your child is experiencing COVID‐19 symptoms or has a positive COVID‐19 test.”

“Again we are reminding people going to get vaccinated to wear appropriate face masks – no neck gaiters or scarves.”

    Enough is enough.

What is th root of this spike? I don’t know what is greater than spike in pandemic speak.

Where did this outbreak sprout from?

    Horticultural Hall?

    After school activities?

    Elsewhere?

People are going to start panicking. Government needs to provide a lot more detail to give comfort to us.

    • Answer says:

Football trip to Florida to practice added numbers. March 8 flight from Miami.

      100 people Parties!

    • Jevon Ray says:

Its 184 cases…. with none needing to be hospitalized, and none in critical condition. Why would people start panicking? More people have recovered on their own, due to their immune systems doing its job. If anything, these most recent spikes coincide with the vaccinations that have been going on for 6wks.

  2. Wow says:

Please add another stat: positive cases that are NOT vaccinated and positive cases that ARE vaccinated.

    Thanks.

    • Busybee says:

Vaccinated people TWO WEEKS after their 2nd jab!

  3. Wimple Beans says:

The Parties continue, because a percentage of my fellow Bermudians make light of this deadly disease, and do as they please without following Covid Regulations. These are the very ones that will cause the CDC to Downgrade us again and sully Bermuda’s Reputation once again. Thanks people for being so Obstinate!

  4. JohnBoy says:

184 active and nobody in the hospital. And the problem is????

    • Jussayin says:

You may have won the award for the most stupidest comment today. That’s like saying during a hail of guna fire the first bullet missed everyone so “It’s ok no one will die” but after you see one, then 2 ppl drop… now your going to realize that o ship I should run or drop to the ground. Be proactive not stupid ppl…carry on

    • Cleaver says:

So let me understand here it is only a problem if person(s) are in hospital…how stupid.

    • Unbelievable says:

Someone was hospitalized last week. Go back to sleep and dream of your precious personal freedoms.

    • Jevon Ray says:

      Exactly, what’s d problem?

    • Joe Bloggs says:

The problem is that the more people who have COVID-19 increase the chances that a vulnerable person will contract it and die. Is that clear enough?

      • Hmmm says:

Surely vulnerable people have taken responsibility for their own health and have gotten vaccines in the last month or two.

  5. Cleaver says:

So let me understand here it is only a problem if person(s) are in hospital…how stupid.

  6. Ringmaster says:

Another from Minister Wilson “I realise I may sound like a broken record, but this needs to be repeated often.” If there are no penalties then the requirement is merely a request. If you break curfew you get fined, but unlikely to be a spreader so why the greater penalty. It’s too late to put the genie back, that should have been done months ago to returning residents to prevent the spread especially when the new variant was known. No more lockdowns etc, which are not working so leave it to herd immunity and vaccinations.

  7. Ricky says:

This virus is mainly killing old (+65) and folks with underlying health conditions. From the press conference they say that 35% of the elderly have not signed up or had the vaccine, and it is available to them. Meanwhile small business are seriously suffering to protect these folks. Small business are losing their livelihoods to keep these elderly people safe and they won’t even take the vaccine! There is something not right about that.

    • Hmmm says:

Completely agree. People have been given ample opportunity to take action to protect themselves. If they wont take protective action, it isn’t my responsibility to protect them against their will and against my own interest.

  8. Confused says:

Agree Ricky. We will continue to face restrictions intended to limit spread and protect others until more people are vaccinated. So for those people that are anti-vaxxers or prefer not to get vaccinated, you are why we are in this position. What a privileged life we lead to be able to individually ‘choose’ for or against the vaccine. Some people and places would kill for it. PLEASE get the vaccine!!!
