Warwick Academy Wins Debate Tournament

On Saturday, March 6th, the annual National Schools Debate Tournament was held virtually, with Warwick Academy receiving awards in both the Public Speaking and Debate categories in the Secondary School division.

A spokesperson said, “On March 6th, the annual National Schools Debate Tournament was held although this year it was held virtually. A thank you to Somersfield who hosted the event which was organized by the Bermuda Debate Society.

“Teams from BHS, Saltus, Somers field, and Warwick Academy took part in the event. Warwick Academy swept the Secondary School awards in both the Public Speaking and Debate categories with an outstanding performance from all members, but especially Warwick’s Year 13 Head Girl McKenzie-Kohl Tuckett.

“The Public Speaking category Dramatic Interpretation and Persuasive Speaking was won by Warwick Academy’s McKenzie-Kohl Tuckett and second place was Warwick’s Year 10 Eva O’Connor. The overall winner of the Public Speaking category was McKenzie -Kohl Tuckett and Eva O’Connor was fifth.

“Warwick Academy also won the Senior School Debate with unanimous wins in the two prepared rounds, one impromptu round and then the finals. The debate topic was whether civil unrest is a legitimate form of protest.

“In the Debate, Overall Speaker Awards, McKenzie-Kohl Tuckett won with Head Boy Noah da Silva placing third and Deputy Head Girl An Mei Daniels placing fourth. To top off McKenzie-Kohl’s sweep of awards, she also won Top Speaker in the Impromptu Round- McKenzie-Kohl Tuckett. ”
