A Government spokesperson said. “On Monday evening, May 24th, Her Excellency the Governor Rena Lalgie signed the amendments to the Public Health [COVID-19 Emergency Powers] [Phased Re-Opening] Regulations 2021. These changes will enable indoor dining to be opened for licensed restaurants if the licensed restaurant verifies that all patrons have a SafeKey.

Scan QR Code

“Licensed restaurants will need to have a portable electronic device such as a smartphone or tablet with a camera that is capable of scanning the QR code on the COVID-19 SafeKey. Internet service is not required, however, you can also scan the QR code using or any compatible QR code scan system.

“When a patron arrives at a restaurant, the restaurant must scan their COVID-19 SafeKey and check that their photo identification matches the information on the SafeKey. will show their initials, the month and day of their date of birth and a green check if the SafeKey is valid.

“Restaurants that do not check the SafeKey and ID of all persons may be subject to closure by the Minister of Health.

“While inside a restaurant, the same rules apply to indoor dining as outdoor dining.

  • No service at a bar
  • No more than 6 persons to a table
  • Tables 6 feet apart
  • Persons can only remove masks while seated, if they are getting up to go to the Bathroom they must wear a mask.

“For patrons, once their COVID-19 SafeKey has been issued to them via e-mail they can print the documentation or carry their digital QR Code with them on a portable electronic device such as a phone or tablet in order to gain access to indoor dining.

“All patrons must also have photo ID with them to access indoor dining. It is recommended that individuals check to make sure your pass is valid prior to attending a restaurant by scanning the QR code on their SafeKey at

“Once at the restaurant, patrons should present COVID-19 SafeKey and identification information to the restaurant who will verify that it is valid and will confirm that it was issued to them by checking your photo-ID.

Currently 30,000 Immunised Persons Eligible For Safekey, Over 7,000 Emails Sent

“The Government appreciates that there is growing interest in SafeKey. In Bermuda, there are currently 30,000 immunised persons that are eligible for Safekey and to date over 7,000 emails have been sent.

“The Ministry of Health will continue to issue vaccination certificates and SafeKeys by email this week. All fully immunised persons, who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and are at least two weeks past their second shot should look out for an email from “Bermuda Government” with the Subject “Government of Bermuda COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate”.

“Follow the link within the email to verify your information and you will be issued an upgraded vaccination certificate and a SafeKey.

“If you are not 2 weeks past your 2nd shot, you will not receive a SafeKey automatically. If you wish to enjoy indoor dining please book a Coronavirus test and your negative test result email will also have a PDF containing your SafeKey and its expiry date.

Work To Move Beyond Pandemic

Premier David Burt said: “With the resumption of indoor dining hundreds of Bermudians who have been unable to work during the pandemic can now return to work or return to full-time work thanks to the implementation of SafeKey. The safe return to normal operations is an important first step to Bermuda’s economic recovery, as we continue to work to move beyond the pandemic.”

  1. Red Pill says:

Safekey is the gateway to track and trace. It comes out of communist China. Why are people so out of it can’t you all see what’s going on they are setting you up for more surveillance. Wake up people!!

    • sandgrownan says:

They can track you already via your phone.

Listen, let’s be serious here, these idiots can’t even run the buses.

    • Vortex says:

You are out of your mind!

Its definitely a gateway drug….to me eating in Bermuda’s best restaurants, while you get turned away.

I can’t honestly believe you are concerned about a global takeover focused on a tiny island in the atlantic, you just like an argument.

    • 2020 Won says:

Hahaha I love it. This government can’t keep track of the buses, they don’t know where the reefs are and they’re not too Savvy about getting their loans repaid, but you think they’re coordinated enough to implant a tracking technology in you to see where you go on your lunch break. You’re too funny.

  2. Joe Bloggs says:

Why do I have to have a Government issued SafeKey? Why can’t I just show my vaccination record?

Why does this Government need to track my every move?

    • sandgrownan says:

Because you can’t be trusted to behave to keep your fellow Bermudians safe? How about that for a starter?

    • Ringmaster says:

Ignore it. Summer is here so dine outdoors. No outdoors? Go somewhere else.

    • Lex says:

Your vaccination record is a paper card a 5 year old could forge, that’s why.

      • Joe Bloggs says:

Thank you. And the second part of my question was “Why does this Government need to track my every move?”

        You haven’t addressed that issue.

    • Question says:

According to Burt you can have a big champagne party and then just claim a few days later you “followed the Safekey rules”. Even before the Safekey law was signed into law.
I wouldn’t bother with all that scanning nonsense. He didn’t.

  3. Andrew says:

LOL peeps complain about anything. A QR Code cannot track you, it simply links to a database to see if your code is valid. And by the way, you are already being tracked by that iphone in your pocket lol

    • Joe Bloggs says:

“it simply links to a database”

Exactly, a database that is constantly updated.

What company issues SafeKey passes? Who owns that company?

We know that Premier Burt says he is a digital wizzard. Is he collecting all this information on us through one of his companies?

  4. Shawn Smith says:

I am still asking the question which no one seems to want to answer, Is a person who has fully recover from the covid 19 without taking the vaccine be eligible to receive a certificate saying they fully immunised?

Remember the point of the vaccine is to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, something a healthy body does naturally.

Taking the vaccine does not stop you from catching covid 19 again, the Premier provided that.

Whether you take the vaccines or your body naturally produces the antibodies, you get the same result, immunised body – 2+2 or 2X2 = 4.

    • Gaz says:

      No. Of course not.
      Just get vaccinated ffs.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

“Whether you take the vaccines or your body naturally produces the antibodies, you get the same result, immunised body”

I think you should discuss your medical theory with a medical professional. He or she may have a different view.

  5. Ringmaster says:

Probably not really required after tonight’s Covid update. The Premier tried to wriggle out that rules were broken for the St Regis opening but OK because it was a big and important event. No rules apply for the elite it seems.

    • Question says:

Burt tried to make the excuse that ‘Safekey rules were followed’, but Safekey rules weren’t signed into law until today, They didn’t exist when he was out partying with his elite rich friends. So what he was doing was, by his own admission, illegal.

This is no different than what happened at Blu last year, and the ministers involved in that both lost their jobs.

      When is Burt resigning?

  6. Ringmaster says:

What if 5 of the 6 people don’t have the safe key? The person with the reservation can enter but not the others? Unlikely to turn away so like the restrictions on shopping where the restriction is ignored, or the opening of St Regis.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

Better yet, what if I want to take my family out for dinner.

Everyone except my granddaughter is immunized. My granddaughter is not eligible for a vaccination. so because she is with us we cannot dine indoors.

      • Correct says:

Thats correct! NO ONE who is not vaccinated can dine indoors period and I would take offence to someone who did!

      • Loquat tree says:

Granddaughter can get a Covid-19 PCR test and get a safe key that way. ( lasts 3 days).

  7. Bill says:

So this “safekey” ammendment was signed under the emergency powers covid 19 ammendment. Was it tabled before our politicians first? Also what has been left out is the costs for this. Are people going to have to pay for a safe key? If so, it’s another money grab from this covid situation used by the government.
Just like those useless monitoring bracelets and fees for travel.

  8. BermyGal says:

Complain complain complain. Its the favorite Bermuda pastime now. Drama and conspiracy everywhere. The notion that David Burt personally wants to track your every move …. give me a break, that sounds so ridiculous!
