BPSU Appoint Kevin Grant, Linda Bogle-Mienzer

The Bermuda Public Services Union [BPSU] announced that Kevin Grant has been appointed as General Secretary, while Linda Bogle-Mienzer has been appointed as Labour Relations Organizer.

BPSU President Armell Thomas said, “I am pleased to announce the following Secretariat staff appointments:

Bro. Kevin S. Grant MMHRM, CMgr, MCMI, General Secretary

“Effective May 12, 2021, Bro. Kevin S. Grant assumed the role of General Secretary.

“Before joining the Secretariat in October 2016 as BPSU’s Assistant General Secretary, Bro. Grant worked for the Department of Planning as a Senior Administrative Officer for 27 years.

“Bro. Grant has an extensive history with the BPSU having been elected to serve in various capacities including Shop Steward for the Department of Planning [1994], Chair of Division 11 [1999], 3rd Vice President [2005-2008], 1st Vice President [2008-2011] before ascending to the post of President [2011-2014].

“During his tenure as President, the relationship between the BPSU and the Bermuda Industrial Union [BIU] was rejuvenated resulting in the BIU joining the Bermuda Trade Union Congress [BTUC] in 2012. As President, he participated in the historic round of negotiations between the Bermuda Government and the BTUC in 2013.

“Bro. Grant has participated in numerous training and development opportunities on behalf of the Union. In 1997, he was selected to participate in BPSU’s Leadership Development Program and served as an Executive on the Youth Committee. As a part of his on-going development, Bro. Grant attended the New Union Leaders Course at George Meany University of Labor in Baltimore, Maryland in 2000. As a representative of the BPSU, he participated in the prestigious Commonwealth Study Conference in Australia and New Zealand in 2003. In March 2014, Bro. Grant received his Masters Degree in Human Resources Management. In 2018, he obtained a certificate in Labour Relations through Queen’s University IRC program, and in June of 2019 he was awarded the designation of Chartered Manager.

“He has served on various Government boards and Committees including Immigration Board, Labour Advisory Committee, Joint Grading Panel, GEHI Management Committee, Public Service Superannuation Board, and the BHB Compensation Governance Committee

“Married to Dorothea and father to one son, Dakai, Bro. Grant has been active in the community having served on the Pembroke Parish Council and in various positions on the North Village Community Club Executive as well as the Treasurer for North Village Community Trust [St. Monica’s Neighborhood Action Group].

Sis. Linda Bogle-Mienzer, Labour Relations Organizer

“On June 14, 2021, Sis. Linda Bogle-Mienzer joined the BPSU Secretariat as a Labour Relations Organizer. Prior to joining the Union, Sis. Bogle-Mienzer worked at the Bermuda Police Service for 25 years as a Station Duty Officer [SDO].

“Sis. Bogle-Mienzer began her union career as a Shop Steward for the SDOs in 2003 after the untimely death of SDO Sis. Gladys Saunders. She has steadily moved up the ranks and has served as Chair of Division 7, Chair of the Shop Stewards Committee, the Chair of the Public Relations Committee, Bully & Harassment Rapid Response Liaison Officer, and 2nd Vice President. As 2nd VP, she was most recently responsible for Divisions 1,2,4,5, and 13.

“Over the past 18 years, Sis. Bogle-Mienzer has amassed a wealth of knowledge in negotiations, grievance handling, workplace leadership, human rights, shop steward training, bullying and harassment, and labour relations. She has travelled extensively for the Union and currently holds the position of LGBTQ representative for Public Services International Caribbean Sub-region.

“Sis. Bogle-Mienzer prides herself in being a strong unionist and a voice for the workers. She can be seen throughout the bargaining units in her bowties mingling with the membership at every opportunity. She lives by the saying “I’m just a worker who fights for all workers.”

“Sis Bogle-Mienzer’s greatest joy is her family including her wife Christine and her “Boys”, puppies RayLove and Harmonii O. In her spare time, she is a keen cricket and tennis enthusiast and a huge fan of social media. Her mantra is “Live Peeps Live, Don’t Just Exist”.

“I join the BPSU’s Executive Committee, General Council, and Secretariat Staff in wishing both General Secretary Bro. Kevin Grant and Labour Relations Organizer Sis. Linda Bogle-Mienzer much success in their new roles as they work to move the Union “Onward and Upward Together!”
