Bobb Qualifies For World U20 Championships
Caitlyn Bobb has met the qualifying standard for the World Athletics U20 Championships which will be held in August in Kenya.
Bermuda National Athletics Association President Donna Raynor said, “The BNAA are pleased to inform you that Caitlyn Bobb has met the qualifying standard for the World Athletics U20 Championships which will be held August 17th – 22nd in Nairobi, Kenya.
“Caitlyn participated in the 2021 Maryland State High School Championships June 18th – 19th placing 1st in the 100m 12.0, 1st in the 200m 24.37 and 1st in the 400m 53.72.
“Her time of 53.72 in the 400m qualified her for the WA U20 Championships with the standard being 54.85. She was just outside of the 200m standard with the standard being 24.35. She then competed in the East Coast Track and Field Championships in New Jersey were she finished runner up in the 400m in a time of 54.30 and the winning time 54.20.
“Caitlyn’s mother, a former Olympian Dawnette Bobb [Douglas] will be traveling with Caitlyn to Nairobi. We are excited that Caitlyn will be competing in the Bermuda National Championships July 10th and we will get to see her compete on home soil in Bermuda for the first time.
“Not to be outdone, Nathan Armstrong competed in the East Coast Championships prior to his graduation ceremony June 24th placing 1st in the 800m with a new school record of 1.54.38 and also qualified him for the Nike HS Nationals.
“Nathan will also be competing in the Bermuda National Championships and will be competing against Nirobi Mills-Smith, our Carifta gold medalist and Sancho Smith who ran a great race in the 800m yesterday at our track meet with Nirobi winning in a time of 1.57.71 and Sancho 1.57.73.
“The qualifying time in the 800m for WA U20 Championships is 1.50.80 and the deadline for qualifying is August 2nd.”
