Sebastian Kempe Continues Competing In Italy

July 29, 2021

Youth sailor Sebastian Kempe recently continued competing at the 2021 ILCA 6 Youth World Championships in Arco, Italy.

With south winds from 5 to 15 knots, the qualifying series is now complete after three days of racing.

In the Boys Division, Kempe fell off the pace somewhat, coming off the water in 10th place after five total races sailed with 21.2 net points. American Robby Meek emerged at the top of the standings, posting two second place finishes on the day. Meek is now tied with local favorite Mattia Cesana of Italy with six points overall.

Two races were held on the day, with Kempe finishing ninth in the first race and ten 15th in the second race.

All fleets have completed five races and the Gold Fleet is now set for the six championship series contests scheduled over the next three days. At the midway point in the regatta, leaders are starting to emerge from the pack in both the girls and boys divisions, but scores are still very tight.

With the championship fleets now determined, the racing will certainly become more competitive for the remainder of the series. Moderate south winds are forecasted, which will no doubt challenge both the sailors and the race officials over the next few days.

On the podium with a final 3rd place is the most amazing result for this young sailor. I don’t think people in Bermuda realise how incredible this result is for Bermuda. I am certain we will see Sebastian compete one day at the Olympics.
