Liberty Mutual Insurance Bermuda continues the role of presenting sponsor of Relay For Life of Bermuda for the ninth consecutive year, and in doing so invites the community to learn more about Relay For Life during the Kick Off event, which will be held around the City of Hamilton tomorrow [Feb 9].
Steve Horton, President of Liberty Mutual Insurance Bermuda said, “Liberty is excited and proud to once again be sponsoring Relay for Life of Bermuda. The last couple of years have been unprecedented for us all. The positivity and focus this event brings to such an important cause is something we can all get behind and support.”
“The Liberty Mutual Insurance Relay season officially kicks off tomorrow with the intention to move forward with an in-person event this year at North Field, National Sports Centre following two seasons of virtual participation,” a spokesperson said.

“Since 2014 Liberty Mutual Insurance Bermuda has donated over $678,488 of funding to Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre through corporate sponsorship and their annual employee participation in the Relay For Life campaign.
“These funds have been instrumental in the continued success of the Centre as a leading non-profit in Bermuda, providing radiation therapy and early detection services to our community – and free of co-pays for those without insurance coverage.
Mr Horton continues, “With community support, Relay For Life of Bermuda raised the funds for the successful opening of a radiation facility in Bermuda, a huge accomplishment. In addition, funds raised through the event provide services to those who are uninsured or underinsured who previously would not have had access to treatment. “Put People First” is a core Liberty value and this is more important now more than ever before as we come together to support our community”.
A spokesperson added, “The Bermuda Relay event, held in May every year [May 20-21, 2022] at the North Field, National Sports Centre, is the Island’s largest annual fundraiser, attracting more than 5,000 people each year and raising over $4.5 million since it began.
“97% of funds raised through Relay support the local event’s mission to raise awareness and funds to promote access to cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and support provided by Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre; and 3% supports the American Cancer Society’s Global Relay For Life, life-saving research and programmes around the world.
“Relay For Lifes are overnight events, with teams camping out around a track. Each Relay begins with an inspirational opening ceremony, followed by cancer survivors taking the first lap around a track while other participants cheer them on. All Relay participants then start walking around the track.
“After dark, Relay events feature a solemn luminary ceremony with hundreds of lighted candles to honour cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battles with the disease. Relays end with a closing ceremony the next day. For information on Relay For Life of Bermuda, visit www.bermudarelay.com.”
