Photos & Video: Easter Lilies At Local Farm
Once a major export for the island, local farmers still grow Easter Lilies with some beautiful fields to be seen every year as the Easter holiday approaches, with the flowers sold locally, and a bouquet is sent every year to the Queen.
While the island no longer exports the flowers in bulk, it was once said Bermuda was known as “The Easter Isle” for a million good reasons — that was the estimated size of the island’s annual crop of lilies when the industry was at its peak. Established back in the late 1800s, the island’s trade in the gleaming, pure-white Eastertime bloom was one of Bermuda’s most lucrative export industries for decades.
