Minister: If You Know Something, Say Something

May 11, 2022

The Minister of National Security Michael Weeks expressed his praise and concern following the second firearm incident to take place in only a few days.

Minister Weeks said, “I want to express my thanks to the off duty police officer who took action at the scene yesterday afternoon, which led to the recovery of a firearm.”

The Minister has received briefings from the Bermuda Police Service regarding the attempted shootings Sunday night and yesterday.

Minister Weeks reinforced the warnings issued by the Bermuda Police Service regarding the sharing of CCTV footage, saying, “I recognise the speed that social media platforms like WhatsApp can deliver news in an island community as small as ours.

“However, I urge everyone that if you receive a copy of CCTV footage showing a crime, I urge you not to share it, but delete it immediately. We live in a world where someone being recognised on a video clip on your phone can put someone’s safety at risk.

“We do not need people taking action in the form of forwarding gossip and viral videos. We need people to step up to share critical information with the police so that the perpetrators can be apprehended.

“I can say it in no simpler terms than this – a blind eye turned away today can result in loss of life tomorrow. If you know something, say something.”

Anyone with information regarding the two attempted shootings this week should call 211 or the main Police mumber 295-0011. They can also call the confidential Crime Stoppers Hotline on 800 8477, or speak with a Police Officer that they trust.

  1. If you know something , say something says:

I know something. It’s that our government are full of B.S. and don’t know how to run a country .

Why reveal his job description then? This man handled it , without hesitation, like a boss. It is a thing of beauty. Pity the gun clown got away, I was hoping that blow had caused major damage.

Absolutely! That was the bravest things in Bermuda I have ever seen! I say break out a Hero nomination! People saying he should have kept the guy on the ground are clueless. The cop was focused purely on the gun and that gang banger’s adrenaline probably gave him the strength of 10 guys. But, he didn’t leave with that gun. He left with some serious bruises.

I’ve tried to reach out to Police. One officer I know personally. ZERO RESPONSE!!!!!!! But how would I feel safe giving up information if the Police don’t protect the ones giving information??? I HAVE INFORMATION!!!!! BUT THE GOVERNMENT DOESN’T CARE ABOUT OUR SAFETY!!! This message WILL GET OVERLOOKED
