DeSilva-Andrade Competes In World Boccia Cup

July 10, 2022

Bermuda’s Yushae DeSilva-Andrade recently competed in the Póvoa de Varzim 2022 World Boccia Cup in Portugal.

Despite her best efforts, she lost both her opening games, which means she did not progress to the finals. She lost first game by only one point to a competitor from Spain who is currently ranked 6th in the world, and she then played the world number 7 from Poland and lost 5-1.

Extract from the Opening Ceremony video showing glimpses of the Bermuda team:

“Despite the disappointment, Yushae demonstrated she can be very competitive with players ranked in the top 10,” her coach said. “This competition was her first since October 2019 due to Covid and provided a good benchmark of where her level of play is at and what areas she can fine tune to improve.

“She will be competing in Veldhoven World Boccia Challenger in Netherlands from 2-4th August and hopefully she can draw on experience in Portugal and get some positive results. Omar Hayward will also be competing in Netherlands and will be his first competition since 2019. Yushae will then be the sole player from Bermuda competing in Boccia World Championships in Rio, Brazil from December 6-10th.”
