Boxer Adrian Roach Wins Fight In New York

Adrian Roach continued his boxing education after winning his amateur bout at the United States Military Academy West Point in New York on Saturday.
The Bermudian, representing the Crandall University Boxing Chargers team, defeated southpaw Ryan Chi by a split decision in a super-welterweight contest to improve his record to 12 wins from 17 outings.
Roach said Chi, the National Collegiate Boxing Association champion, was a tricky and technical opponent who made him work hard for his victory.
“I had to box a lot more cleverly than I anticipated,” said Roach, who entered the ring draped in a Bermuda flag.
“I wanted to use a bit more aggression and thought I’d be able to stop him. It didn’t go that way, but I still came away with the win. I stepped up in weight class, and it was another good experience. I expected a bit more from myself, though.”
The 20-year-old, who returns to Bermuda tomorrow, meets Canadian Matthew-Scott Mahar Barbara on the undercard of Fight Night Champion at The Shed in Dockyard on Saturday [October 22].
“I’m hoping to make a statement, and I’m looking to put on a show in front of my family and friends,” said Roach, who earned a technical knockout win over Jamaican Sanju Williams at the previous Epic Entertainment card at the same venue in June. “It’s always great to be fighting in Bermuda.”
Headlining the event is Bermudian professional Nikki Bascome [10-1-0], who faces Canadian Cody Kelly [4-3-3] in a welterweight contest.
Bascome’s stable-mate Andre Lambe [5-0] takes on Paul Ispas [4-1-3], also of Canada, in a welterweight bout, while Michael Parsons [0-1] fights Jamaican Gregory Miller [1-4] in a super-welterweight clash.
Tickets are available at Choices Menswear and ptix.bm.
Ringside seats cost $150 and include VIP entry, two free drink tokens, and an Epic Entertainment treat box.
VIP tickets are $125, and general admission is $80.
